  1. Could it be connected with the fact I contacted forum admin in the last week over something???
  2. Me Too been with Thai Visa for over 10 years - I don't have a big rating - but suddenly I'm a NEWBIE
  3. Yes it's true and yet I see a sports organisation is planning a 10KM run in Bangkok January 19th next year. https://www.nationthailand.com/lifestyle/sport/40024571 Get fit breathing in the pollution eh
  4. So just to wrap this up XE versus WISE XE – free transfers except if you under their lower limit (£1000 I think) and then £2.00. This includes Debit card and bank transfers. (Under lower limit charge £2) Up to £1300 rate (especially with no transfer charge) gives better option. Rate is real time constantly changing. Claim 24 hour transfer. WISE - Charges depend on whether bank transfer or debit/credit card More for debit/credit cards versus bank transfers (£18/£12 approx) Above £1300 Wise total transfer (depending on method used) is marginally better at the amount I tried (£2000) but I guess the larger the transfer with a fixed fee the more advantage it has. Rate fixed for 2 hours In my case they claim 36 hour transfer What I don’t know yet is what the charge the Thai bank will make for receiving the money with each company. As I said in a previous post in my case it was almost a dead heat WISE by about 70 baht. So you pays your money and takes your choice BUT it never hurts to have two strings to your bow!
  5. I've just signed up for WISE Apart from hazzles with my Banks fraud checks!! this is what happened: If I paid with a debit card XE was better - If a pay with bank transfer Wise is marginally better (about 70 baht more) (I use bank transfer on XE so I guess Wise wins by a photo finish)
  6. So do you have a Singapore offshore account - not being nosey just interested if that's possble.
  7. As far as I know although you can buy many phone brands, since the demise of Blackberry there are only two operating systems on the phones Apple OS or Google OS (Android). So whatever phone you buy its security or otherwise is determined by these two TECH giants
  8. yes you are right £1000 baht at 40.3.. No fee £2500 at 40.00 something No fee cBetter to do to do 2 x £ 1000 transfers
  9. These are live rates are you comparing like for like between WISE and XE? (ie within a minute of each other)?
  10. Partly right????
  11. On other threads I see a lot of people speaking about WISE for money transfers. I use XE for mine - no fees and a slightly better rate than WISE so is there another reason why so many use WISE?
  12. Your English seems to have improved
  13. Do you have a link or number for this consumer protection board.
  14. It does seem a bit strange that change of mind doesn't allow you to open the package BUT I would never use that as a reason anyway. (I've always assumed you would have to pay the return carriage for that). Recently, I asked to return something because the item did not work properly - when you do that you have to send a photograph BUT the way my item did not work really needs a video and their system does not seem to accept videos - the seller refused the return so I phoned the Lazada help line. They wanted me to use my "U-tube account or Google Drive" to send the video - I don't have either - in the end they let me send via an attachment to a reply to their email to me - result - return approved. Whether I'll get my money back remains to be seen!
  15. I have a UK will that covers soley UK assets and a Thai will that covers soley Thai assets - are you saying that's not sufficient
  16. It was a play on words - a joke???? And in fact 1,900 baht times all the visa renewals is collectively a lot of money
  17. Doesn't Sinapore have Capital Punishment and strokes with a cane for some transgressions?
  18. Yes they are - they collect a lot of dosh from from us Farangs!
  19. Sure, but there would be solicitors fees as they would be the executor and responsible for selling the flat and remitting monies with no-one really overseeing them (not that I'm paranoid - just cautious)!
  20. Another factor to consider is that at 79 it would be far easier for my longstanding Thai partner to inherit more of and more easily my estate (even though I have a UK will in her favour there would be solicitor fees etc). And I think I recall seeing somewhere that foreign currency transfers to Thais attract a government levy (don't ask me where I can't remember) - there is no death duty in Thailand ( not that I'm planning to pop off soon).
  21. In Scotland tenants have more security of tenure as far as I am aware landlords can't just terminate a tenancy. Even for non payment it can take a long time to get them out. Also the rules around letting are far more stringent than England.
  22. Yes, Covid affected me too (I was stuck in the UK for 2 years). so did you just write to the pension service or is there a form to fill in - and something else if you advise the pension service surely HMRC will know you are not resident since every year when I do my return the system already has my pension in it (and if no direct communication some eagle eyed official could see that the amount doesn't increase). However, thank you very much for your post very useful - as Tesco says "every little helps"
  23. That's exactly why I am asking the questions here - and thanks for the links that's exactly the sort of thing I was hoping to get.
  24. Ho Ho - NHS - one of the reasons I am considering it - this may have been true in the past but now you have to go through trial by triage to see a doctor and if you are lucky a 6 month wait to see a consultant. I don't have insurance (too expensive at my age) but hospitals here aren't too bad and they are very quick to see you just had an MRI for knee - needs joint replacement but at 79 you have to weigh up the cost benefit (for how long)
