  2. Ascend ?? more like Descend????
  3. Just reminiscing not proposing to bring to Thailand!
  4. Thanks and I only say this as information not as a criticism but if you get a UK pension then how do you receive it and the UK pension is frozen at the level when you left the country - no cost of living increases. These are exactly what I am trying to explore before any decision.
  5. I had a old Hymer 565 - had solar charger on the roof for the battery so no need for hook ups for several days. Many happy hours touring Europe
  6. I'm not English so my first language is not English, I'm not sure what you ment, or what you trying to explain? What is mean by queuing? Not a Queue - A condition or place of great disorder or confusion. Queue - To get in line. Not all cultures or even people within cultures think queuing is necessary!
  7. Two mutually exclusive words - although the concept of queuing is not an internationally accepted protocol!
  8. Scotland - Rentals favour the renter one option is to sell and buy in England where the rules are better.. As I say I am just looking at all the options and really just want to know if anyone has been through the "official" process and what the pitfalls etc are
  9. 79 been here on and off for over 12 years first on Work Permit now on Retirement Extension.
  10. Not sure where to post this so apologies if it's in the wrong place. I own a flat in the UK and spend time there with my Thai partner and we also spend time in Thailand. The costs associated with this are becoming difficult to sustain - airfares have nearly doubled over the last few years, I have to pay council tax etc. and heat the flat whilst not there (insurance requirement) so I am considering selling the flat and being based solely in Thailand. If I do this I believe I then have to inform the UK Government Has any UK poster been through the process and can they give me any pointers. As I say I'm just looking at all the options at the moment.
  11. From "The Nation" In the six months between March and October last year, over 114,000 online scams stole a total of 22 billion baht, according to the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society.
  12. Don't you use the wife for the mopping?
  13. I think we all have to remember all tech firms mobile or otherwise hold one thing in the highest regard - NOT me NOT you BUT our data it's their lifeblood (money) and they will do all they can to protect and exploit that revenue stream.
  14. Who defines what is a conspiracy theory and what is not? Who defines what constitues "basic Online/digital security" Google? Microsoft? - not open source software so who knows what goes on in those dark recesses. I live in the 21st century and I see too many people trusting their own "theories" about IT and its value in our society.
  15. Sorry I'm up to my gills at the moment I'll get back to you????
  16. Your answer to his statement that he doesn't have a phone. My answer - freedom of choice - In this internet/mobile phone age our choices are being controlled by "BIG TECH"
  17. When I renewed a couple of weeks back in Korat (well just outside) they wanted one for each license but they accepted a copy. Iimmigration did one for each license (500 baht each on the day free if you wait 10 days). so plan ahead
  18. Just to wind up the thread I started about drills (although it's been fun reminscing about old cars - I've had a lot -my first a Ford Y type) I agree with the above - my recent experience - bought a Brushless drill - arrived tested - Sparked like hell - sent back > Ordered another - wrench with keyless chuck attachment for screws - when you unscrew a screw - it unscrews the chuck not the screw!! In dispute over that one! In general buying, ordering returning items on Lazada is painless and easy and their help line is good, however, there are so many misdescriptions on their electric drill section that I won't be ordering from there again (and they really should do something about it) - off to Do Home/Global/HomePro tomorrow.
  19. I really don't think insulting Thais is appropriate. Just as the world is full of what ifs, so it is with bravery some are some aren't. Me I'm not so brave - I like a quiet life so no more posts on this thread for me.
  20. And if many ears ago the French had been successful in annexing Thailand we would have to speak French to get our visa extensions And if the French many years ago had been successful in annexing Thailand we would be doing our visa extensions in French Life is full of what ifs
  21. How are you? - I'm fine thank you, and you? How are you? - I'm terrible. - 99% of the time - NO answer. The majority are not taught to speak English only to answer stock phrases. (and not many of those either). Although I have to say that when I speak with the online help (lazada, 3 BB) I am Impressed with their command. I assume rightly or wrongly that some really do understand that to learn English (the so called language of international business) improves their employment opportunities. It still doesn't alter the fact that us "native English speakers" are fortunate people and expecting everyone to speak "our language" in their country is somewhat arrogant.
  22. How are you? - I'm fine thank you, and you? wrongly posted see next post
