Thanks for the info But what about where they connect to the motor? I assume they have a + and a - terminal with leads out to the electric motor???? -

I have a question about EVs - most of the diagramatic pictures I see show the battery pack at floor level. With Thailand having a great propensity to flood might that be an issue? -
I think what people are complaining about is not having to pay taxes here in Thailand as they already do (sales tax). What they are complaining about is possibly having to pay tax on bringing money to Thailand that they have already paid tax on in their home country. Even with reciprocal tax agreements that are open to interpretation by different officials and may involve lots of extra paperwork there are genuine concerns about paying tax twice what is your money.

Just a question: Surely whatever means they use for "collecting" what they see as their rightful dues ???? cannot start until 180 days into 2024 as only then can they ascertain the length of a persons stay and hence if they are a tax resident and even then people may take trips out of the country during the course of the year. So I don't see how they are going to collect the tax until at least 2025 Of course they could collect via banks receiving money and them tell you to request a repayment depending on your tax statusat the end of the year - ho ho

what you do with your house when you are away in thailand?
Negita43 replied to parafareno's topic in General Topics
I use WIFI to control central heating (Google Nest linked to a combi boiler) set to the insurance requirement of 15C. Camera on door for security BUT it is always a worry and the journey each year to and from at 80 is getting more and more daunting so I am probably going to sell up - then no worries about that but of course plenty of worries about other things linked to commiting to spend the rest of my life in Thailand. In my opinion governments (all) just want to restrict our freedoms more and more. -
This topic is becoming very cumbersome to read (although of course very important) so apologies if this question has come up before. In the UK they have 2 special "wrappers" for money, one of which is an ISA - ISA's allow up to 20K each to be invetsed (money or stocks) and all income and gains are tax free so how does that fit into this new system? The other is a SIPP (self invested Pension) - money taken out from this scheme is taxed at (I believe) 25% same question as above - how does that fit into the proposed regulations?

There is a GUI version called Zorin I believe VINE allows you to run windows apps Not sure about video editing but all the others are available

Just for clarity does a non O visa extension mean I am a resident (I thought it meant just the opposite) - I think the concept of residency is (as in most countries) blurred and confusing. Finally, there is an old saying "two things you can't escape - death and taxes" For me it's a matter of which comes first????!
-
Slightly off topic but I worked here legally for several years and did a tax return every year - then I "retired" (non O visa extension) currently I am over the Thai retirenment age and since then I have not submitted any tax returns. 2 Qs: 1. should I have? 2. will I have to or will (as I guess they will) use the banks to deduct any tax as money from abroad enters the country?

Can anyone point me to the cheapest (PAYG?) sim card here in Thailand - it will hardly ever get used as I will put it in a phone that will stay in my house and only be used for telephone baking (or even banking)!????
-
The key here is "Nanny State" Not only for landlords - everywhere -Twice in the last 6 months (whilst in UK) tried to pay from my bank account using my debit card (several thousand £) the bank accepted the OTP then blocked the payment (but didn't bother to tell me) because they were "looking after my interests" - and then I had to answer several intrusive questions such as (are you doing this for someone who called you). You can't even spend your own money any more! Also arguements about going back for medical care just don't stack up - knee replacement NHS at least 18 months wait - private double the cost in Thailand. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and then deal with what occurs after that.
-
I do not see how a single device (everything on mobile phone - once lost/stolen they can be hacked) approach is more secure than a two device system (access via pc/notebook confirmation by OTP to phone - lose one device but someone only has half of what's required for access to the account.
-
Not sure if this is the correct place but I would like some advice/pointers. I am adverse to banking apps (I don't think they are safe - I prefer a PC and a phone based OTP - two factor). Anyway, I recognise when i cannot win so I am looking at the best way of succumbing with least risk so I have some Q's for the "technology advanced members" amongst us: 1. If I install the apps on a spare phone which will never leave my property does it have to have a sim in it? 2. If it does - does the sim only have to be in for the set up and installation of the app or does it always have to be in the phone (ie can the app be used over WIFI). My assumption is that it does as if they send OTPs then that comes via a mobile but to be honest I just am not clear how these apps work so some clarification would be appreciated.. Please let's no go down the Luddite route - it's a simple question not a criticism of you app lovers for banking.

Increase in UK visa fees.
Negita43 replied to BlueScouse's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
Yes how does that stack up against what the government pays everyday to house and support illegal immigrants. Punish those that follow the rules and reward those that don't. That's the UK government policy
