Australian Bar Owner’s Girlfriend Falls From Third Floor in Pattaya

A Thai woman suffered injuries after falling from the third floor of a recently opened beer bar in Soi Buakhao, Pattaya, late on the night of 3 June 2026. Emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the fall, while police launched an investigation into the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation in Pattaya were alerted to the incident at 11.30pm. Police from Pattaya City Police Station also attended the scene at a five-storey commercial building that had recently opened as a beer bar.

Large numbers of Thai and foreign tourists gathered at the location, causing traffic congestion along Soi Buakhao. Officers asked bystanders who were not involved in the incident to leave the area so emergency personnel could carry out their work.

The injured woman was later identified as Natthanida, it is believed it was her birthday. She was found with abrasions on her body and complained of pain in her back. Rescue workers provided first aid before transferring her to Pattaya City Hospital for urgent treatment and full assessment of her injuries. She was also reported to be intoxicated.

Witnesses told police that the woman is the girlfriend of an Australian man who owns the bar. They said the couple regularly drank alcohol together and that she had previously attempted to jump from the building, but her boyfriend had managed to stop her.

Initial investigations found that she fell from the third floor of the building. Her body struck and broke through an awning before landing on the ground below.

Witnesses also stated that the couple frequently argued and that the woman had appeared stressed for several days. However, they said they did not know the cause of her distress, describing it as a private matter.

While journalists were recording the scene, the injured woman’s boyfriend, who appeared to be intoxicated, reportedly became upset, shouted at those present and attempted to prevent filming inside the area.

Pattaya City Police have documented the scene and collected evidence. Officers plan to interview the injured woman at hospital once her condition improves sufficiently for her to provide a statement. Authorities said they will wait until she is able to speak with investigators before completing the inquiry into the facts of the case and determine the cause of the incident.

If you or anyone you know is in emotional distress, please contact the Samaritans of Thailand 24-hour hotline: 02 713 6791 (English), 02 713 6793 (Thai) or the Thai Mental Health Hotline at 1323 (Thai). Please also contact your friends or relatives at this time if you have feelings of loneliness, stress or depression. Seek help.

The myth that just doesn't die. There is no abnormally low balcony rails in Thailand.

And even if there was, that's your cue to be more careful (if you have a functioning brain)

Yes there are. I'm 5'3" and have to be careful in many places. God help me if I'm wearing my Sylvester Stallone cowboy boots with lifts.

In Thailand, building regulations under the Building Control Act require external balcony railings (guardrails) to be at least 90 cm to 100 cm high (and occasionally up to 1.1 meters for certain public or high-rise structures). Railings must be structurally sound and designed without gaps that would allow a 10 cm sphere to pass through. [1, 2, 3, 4]

The specific safety and construction parameters required by Thai building codes include:

  • Height Restrictions: Guardrails must be a minimum of 90 cm to 1.0 meter (approx. 39 inches) from the standing surface to the top of the rail. Some interpretations require 1.1 meters for maximum safety. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Do you really think that 51% (and controlling interest) is owned by Thais, who invested their own money?

I'm not the obtuse one in this story. That's been an open secret in Pattaya since long before I darkened the shores of Thailand in 2011.

First i heard of it was 1998, probably had been going on for decades

My main point is that they can stay under the radar for years, even decades. But then someone makes the headlines by kicking a Thai doctor, or running over a Thai Hi-So in a crosswalk, or wrecking a car, or having a GF take a header off the balcony. And suddenly, they're under the microscope.

This isn't a good time to show up on the radar...

Perhaps the drunken woman should not complain.

She got lucky on her birthday, so lucky, in fact, to still be alive.

Juney is somewhat older and is well know for her “3 minute massage” and another service along side that she has perfected. She’s well known on another forum about Pattaya

The Thai Anti-corruption mechanism is set-up largely on the basis of a complaint by an "injured Party".

To report any transgression of officialdom or persons otherwise covered takes a specified injury (or damage) and USUALLY a grudge.

Maybe it's just lip service, but here's a selection from the AN thread I linked to (above):

Thai authorities have launched a nationwide crackdown on illegal activities involving foreign nationals, beginning with an immediate three-month campaign ordered by the Royal Thai Police (RTP).

The immediate phase focuses on intensive inspections of foreigners across the country. Police units have been instructed to compile databases and identify groups linked to drug trafficking, economic crimes, customs and tax offences, cybercrime, illegal immigration, prostitution, human trafficking and violent activity.

The medium-term phase, expected to last six to nine months, will see the Immigration Bureau lead investigations into visa extensions, foreign business activities and supporting documentation. Authorities said foreigners found violating laws could face revocation of permission to remain in Thailand.

It doesn't sound like they're going to be waiting for complaints. I suspect a headline like this would trigger some attention.

Alcohol and balconies are a bad combination in Thailand.

Crikey , she must be a tough cookie falling from the 3rd floor and only ending up with abrasions and a sore neck how lucky is that ? I'ts always been accepted that people who have a fall whilst pi**ed often don't get injured as bad as someone sober because their body is so relaxed and not tensed up as they fall.

Probably spent his superannuation on the bar, hope he's not next to try harm himself. Sadly, some of these birds can make you think bad thoughts.

About time the building construction act was updated to raise the height of balcony railings. Thailand has a poor safety reputation with people falling off balconies almost every week.

Actually sounds like a bit of a one if you read on. Frequent arguing, intoxicated in his own bar, having a go at the rubberneckers (ok, nothing wrong with that) and those filming etc. Just because he's one of yours, doesn't make him sound.

Why are these falls so common in Pattaya? Had she hit her head, it is likely she may have died instantly. Sounds like a bit of a miracle on Buakhao!
