British Woman Charged With Murder in Pattaya

A 20-year-old British woman has been charged with murder after her 33-year-old British partner was found dead with multiple stab wounds at a villa in Pattaya. Thai police allege Isabelle Violet Carreras was responsible for the killing, although she has denied the accusation during questioning.

The victim was discovered in the shower with stab wounds to his back, torso and left hand, with a pillow placed beneath his head. Police were alerted after one of the man’s friends became concerned when he could not be contacted and went to the villa, where he found the body in the bathroom. Carreras was reportedly lying beside him in tears when officers arrived.

Investigators said blood was found on furniture, bathroom tiles and cabinets, while several blood-soaked towels were recovered from the property. Police also alleged that parts of the scene appeared to have been cleaned before officers arrived.

A 20-inch hunting knife, described by investigators as a “zombie knife”, was recovered from a sink and is believed to be the murder weapon. Police said the blade showed signs of having been wiped clean. Officers also noted cuts on Carreras’ fingers during questioning.

Carreras denied killing her partner and claimed he had taken his own life. She told investigators that he had recently become “really into grass”, referring to cannabis, and alleged that he had been taking six strips of Valium each day.

Police Colonel Nattapon Phongsuksakul said investigators were reviewing CCTV footage from the villa to establish how the fatal stabbing occurred. He said: “It is a murder case inside a house, with the body ultimately being found in the bathroom.”

He added: “The girlfriend denied committing the murder. However, based on the wounds, it is difficult for us to accept that claim because there was clearly a stab wound to the back.”

Police said they believe the killing took place at about 4am, with authorities not being notified until around 9.30am. Initial investigations indicate the victim had been dead for some hours before his body was found.

Neighbours told police the couple had moved into the villa around two weeks earlier and were known to smoke cannabis regularly. Police said there was evidence cannabis had been consumed and were carrying out further tests to determine whether it had been used before the incident.

Colonel Nattapon said: “Based on the evidence gathered so far, investigators believe Ms Isabelle Violet Carreras was responsible for the killing. She has now been formally charged with murder, but she continues to deny the allegation during questioning.”

He added that investigators were still awaiting the full autopsy report, forensic examination results and DNA analysis before finalising the case file. Police also said they believe cannabis intoxication may have contributed to the suspect’s actions.

The Sun reported that local mèdia reported that the couple were believed to have been married, although Thai police have not confirmed their marital status. The UK Foreign Office said it was supporting the families of the two British nationals and remained in contact with the local authorities.

Watcha talking about @novacova

There's no mention of that. There's mention about heavy grass use as well as valium.

They had been using abusing Mary Jane. Looking at her I think it's safe to say that she looks better than most Thai.

Wonder if they took her blood for analysis.

Will the Brit govt come to her rescue

Just woke up and blurry eyed are ya?

A good person will not associate with druggies, so I wonder what she was drugged up on.

Blaming her partner for everything for self preservation

Quite likely a psychopath

I'd guess sociopath.

Psychopaths tend to hide their true nature from public eye, like serial killers. They have a high sense of self-preservation. She would have killed him after planning an alibi so no suspicion would fall upon her.

Sociopaths OTOH, are more prone to emotional outbursts, often beyond their control. That would explain stabbing her boyfriend in the back at their shared accommodations with no thoughts given about body & murder weapon disposal afterwards.

This is pure nonsense. Good people can associate with anyone, by virtue of their good nature.

If she killed anyone for a mere disagreement, she's not a good person.

For such mundane work, I think a Zombie Knife would be...

Overkill, or something.

I think its the type of knife insecure people buy to hope it makes them look like a man.

Looks like a diving knife to me?

HI Lou

Nice to meet you. In countries where there is a professional consulate as opposed to a the outfit that is in Bangkok, the mother and father of the victim would have been kept informed of developments during the proceedings, and not be beaten to it by the Sun perhaps?

What makes you claim that the embassy is not keeping his parents informed of what's going on? From the OP...

"The UK Foreign Office said it was supporting the families of the two British nationals"

Where was it reported that The Sun beat anyone to it?

Ignore the Thai-Thai news - its only the foreigners doing dodgy stuff in this echo-chamber you've created.

Thai Thai news doesn’t really matter in this case. No Thais are involved.

Whether the girlfriend is a psychopath is also an open question. I haven’t read any accounts of psychiatric reports having been conducted or that she has a history of mental illness.

Shouldn't she have been covered in blood? Every stab would have sprayed her, wouldn't it?

She was found next to him so there would be some on her but the size of the knife implies lots of blood on her.

In my smoking days the only women who ever physically assaulted me were the straighties or beer drinkers. The stoners were all rather mellow. Even since the hybrid growths of today, I still see the stoners as more scattered than aggressive

Valium and alcohol can cause blackouts and violent reactions to unwanted stressors.

Not every stab wound sprays like in the movies.

And she did murder him in the shower after all

Also, I'd think she had enough time to wash up afterwards, as the article says the apt had signs of cleaning, and the probable murder weapon was found to have been cleaned in the sink.

Since he died right where he was stabbed, he was likely immediately incapacitated. I have no autopsy info, but with such a big knife, it could have easily destroyed his heart in one blow. When the heart stops, there is no spray of blood, with most bleeding internal in the chest cavity. A recent example would be the murder of that poor lad in Southhampton. He was stabbed 5 times in the chest, yet responding officers couldn't visually identify any stab wounds (though they didn't look too hard.)

Oh it matters when regarding who my comment was in response to - someone who ‘only’ comments negatively of foreigners- and Thai-Thai news is completely off his radar due the extremely bias echo-chamber in which he operates.

She said the victim was smoking grass and taking 6 strips of valium a day. If she had waited a bit, he might have died of an OD, if he was taking multiple valiums and drinking as well. The Pattaya police commander suggested she was intoxicated on cannabis which might have played a role in the killing which seems unlikely as cannabis usually makes people want love and peace. On the video taken by the victim's friend 6 hours after the killing she sounded very disoriented, more like someone on downers like valium that cannabis. I hope police have done thorough bloodwork on her. Probably will find cannabis, alcohol and valium. I wonder what they were officially doing in Thailand. Reports say the victim was the manager of a large cannabis farm. Anyway a tragic story and sympathies to the victims family.

I'm not sure. The only time in my life that I smoked weed was about 50 years ago when I was very drunk already. The mix of the two made me very neurotic, so much so that I imagined bad people were searching for me. I was walking home and each time I saw a car's headlights, I ran and hid. I was jumping into peoples gardens and allsorts! I was genuinely terrified and think if I'd had a weapon, it's possible that if I'd run into someone I'd have used it. Apart from alcohol I've never taken drugs since.

"The British government aren’t involved."

That's is not accurate.

The FCDO normally offers some kind of support, such as....

Providing consular support, such as help with prison visits, legal information, translation, and contact with Thai authorities.

Monitoring the case and ensuring the British nationals receive fair treatment under Thai law.

Maybe he bought that knife before.

6 Valium and cannabis? Sounds more like the upper and downer thing, I would not wonder if some amph-pills were also included in that mix.

That mix could have made him vulnerable to the the bar girls and she became jealous und used the rambo-knife?

Whatever, stabs in the back --> murder not suicide.

RIP to the man.

At 20, this woman is the same age that I was on my first visit to Thailand, 1985, a week after Live Aid.

I always thought it must be 'tricky' bringing one's farang wife or gf to Thailand, with what's on offer there?

Yes , but that rule works only for so called normal people. Some people with (hidden) mental illness should not take hallucinogens.

Many years ago I remember air-rage incidents being reported on long haul flights, Bangkok - Europe, where the perp had taken Valium to sleep, but had also drank lots of alcohol.

Thailandtourism packages

My comment about the Brit gov was not about her case or helping her now. That's a given they do nothing.

My comment was geared to after she is convicted and given 20 years I female Thai prison. Will they then bend and bring her home so she can do a few years in comparative luxury in Brit jail followed by 5 years probation and welfare payments to live on.

Personally I would like to see her do the time here.

Well, I think you need look at my comment in the context of the post to which I replied.

The British government is not involved in the case in the sense of “coming to the rescue”.

The items you list are secondary support services. The British government is not involved in the case per se and have no means to effect “a rescue “

Mate, believe me, experienced users of marijuana do not experience the neurotic symptoms of paranoia you describe. And you would not have stabbed someone if you had a knife. This case is not about first time users of marijuana but rather a guy who is reported to be a plantation owner and his girlfriend, where the guy is also said to be using 60 Valium a day, which is 10 more than the usual number you'd get in a complete box. Combined with alcohol, the end result is likely to be aggressive behaviour, and those who abuse Valium in large numbers generally combine alcohol with the pills. I don't deny that marijuana tossed into the mix would not also add to the effect, but on its own it is not an aggression stimulant. Yet another Brit to give marijuana a bad name, though this time not because they have attemted to smuggle it back home.

The article did state that someone had attempted to clean up the scene so there is a good chance she'd have cleaned herself up too.
