Host Bar Worker Accused of Raping Brit in Phitsanulok

A 26-year-old host bar worker has been arrested after being accused of raping and assaulting a 35-year-old British woman at a hotel in Phitsanulok. Police said the suspect was detained on Saturday night, 4 July 2026, while allegedly attempting to flee to Bangkok.

The man was apprehended under a court warrant while waiting for a bus in Wang Thong district. The arrest followed an investigation into an alleged attack that took place at a hotel in Muang district.

Police said the British woman had been staying at the hotel since 2 June. In the early hours of 6 June, she hired the suspect, who worked at a host bar, to accompany her and mix drinks in her hotel room.

According to her complaint, the suspect later assaulted her by punching her in the face and around her right eye before raping her. Police said the woman escaped to the hotel reception at about 7.30am and told staff she had been attacked.

Hotel staff arranged for her to be taken to Bangkok Phitsanulok Hospital for treatment. Police said she suffered severe bruising around her right eye and other injuries.

The woman subsequently filed a complaint with Muang police. Tourist police said their enquiries found that she had hired the suspect solely to provide entertainment and drink-mixing.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody under the court warrant and will face legal proceedings in connection with the allegations. The British embassy has been informed of the case and is assisting the woman. Thai authorities are also providing support as the investigation continues.

The case has drawn attention because it involves a foreign tourist and an alleged serious violent offence at a hotel. Police have not released further details about the investigation or any statements from the suspect.

Bangkokpost reported that the next stage of the case will involve the legal process following the suspect’s arrest. Investigators are expected to continue gathering evidence as prosecutors consider the case.

This is Thailand and you have got to be aware of your environment and the mentality of the people you are dealing with, especially in a host bar.

It is a very far out excuse of taking a young man back to your hotel room, on your own, to mix drinks only!

So you can forget all the feminist chants of ' No means No ' this is a host bar in Northern Thailand, they are not there for a knitting circle.

It's fairly obvious what would be in his mind!

No, it indicates they disagreed in something and got into a kind of brawl. If the penetrations was first or later we don't know.

You open the liquor bottle and pour the stuff into a glass. You then pour whatever else you want into it, then stir it. You really need someone to do that for you?

Maybe there is a lost in translation piece here: mixing drinks could be a Thai way of referring to doing the nasty (which I suspect here).

Victim bashing. If it was your daughter you would not laugh.

As her mother, I would question her sanity for bringing up a bartender to her hotel room for mixed drinks and entertainment in the middle of the night! To most men that would be an obvious invitation to other activities.

Yes indeed, what was she thinking?

Fair change we know what - unfortunately it got out of hand somehow.

The comments here are utterly disgraceful, what if this was your mother ?

When 18=year olds were called up in front of their draft boards, there was a common question asked to prove their pacifist status. Q: What would you do if your grandmother was being raped? A: Well, first, I'd wipe the smile off her face!

The cops, of course, had to arrest him due to a foreigner's complaint. Tourist reputation aso. Violence is never justified.

Perhaps her holiday will be over soon and no witness in court. Do people really go to Phitsanulok for sex?!? (Tell me more!) In fact, who goes to Phitsanulok for tourism?

Not at all. All the ladies who come back to my condo are there to mix drinks for me. Why else would they be there?

Cleaning and/or cooking?

For anyone reading the "mixing drinks" line, we all know what that euphemism is trying to avoid saying.

It appears she hired a male escort. That fact, even if true, is legally and morally irrelevant to the allegation of rape.

Consent is not a one-time contract. It can be refused, limited or withdrawn at any moment. If she decided she no longer wanted any sexual contact, or changed her mind halfway through, that decision alone defines the boundary. Crossing it is rape, regardless of what had been discussed, expected or even paid for beforehand.

If the allegations are true, a far more plausible sequence is that alcohol led to poor decisions to hire the 'male escort' (lets call a spade a spade) - and she changed her mind which led to an argument likely over money he felt owed, which escalated into violence. She suffered a serious facial injury before the alleged rape.

She can be criticised for putting herself in a risky situation if people choose to make that argument. Adults are accountable for the decisions that place them in vulnerable circumstances. But accountability for taking a risk is not accountability for someone else's decision to assault and rape you. Those are entirely separate issues.

The moment consent ended, any sexual act became a criminal offence. It's really that simple.

She went to Sukhothai to see the ruins. Phits is the nearest train stop.

This is just a false accusation. How do you hire someone to go to your room and mix drinks for you?

Clearly the woman changed her mind and we don't know the reason for that, but that should always be her choice to do so. She may not have been forthcoming about why she invited him to her room, but if he beat and raped her and then was fleeing to Bangkok then he is hardly blameless.

There are plenty of punters who invite bar girls or ladyboys to their rooms and then change their minds when they get there. Most of us know you don't want to mess with a rejected bargirl or a LB! The difference here seems to be that the gender of the victim was a farang woman. If it was a drunken farang bloke then the responses here would be somewhat different!

So if you took a person back to your room and it turned out to be ladyboy , and that ladyboy punched you in the face and then stuck its willy up up your bum .. Would you make complaint or just accept it ?

JFC! I can't believe how many arrogant scumbags are justifying this assault on the woman. They are a bunch of low life losers.

The invitation to her room to mix drinks is a very strange story in so far as it isn’t something I have heard of before (doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen) but, the only reason why I can think that the man hit her, was because she said no.

it’s impossible to actually know what happened, but in view of the assault, I think she was raped.

I think she put herself in harms way, but it doesn’t excuse the behavior of the guy one little bit.

If she invited him to her room to have sex, but then changed her mind, she is allowed to do that. It does not mean that the man can assault and rape her.

Quite possibly.

And she had been at the same hotel since 2nd June so possibly, even probably, knew him from before and thought he was a friend?

It’s hard to know what interaction they had previously

IMO - that would only make sense if she were with a 'group' of friends and the victim employed him as a bar-man.

But, as a solo woman invite someone back to your room to 'mix cocktails' - the euphemism is exactly what we think its is - that little detail cannot be polished into something it isn't....

Sounds like a good story, entertainment and drink mixing, yeah right!

I'm in no way condoning what allgedly happened.

Maybe the alleged assaillant was given a false impression when the lady invited him into her room ('going back to her place for coffee'?) He then made advances, which were refused/repelled, and it 'escalated'.

Maybe pure speculation, maybe not?

This reminds me of the Mike Tyson case. He invited a girl to his hotel room. Then the girl sued him for rape. Tyson was sentenced to several years in prison. That's the background. Now, the reality is, as a pretty girl, you don't pay Mike Tyson a private visit thinking it'll be to chat over a cup of tea.

If true, he's a scumbag and deserves what he gets... but if she's a drama-queen Me-too type of nonsense, then she shouldn't even be here and get the book thrown at her as they don't care about that western nonsense here.

Also, the stated circumstances she made in a statement about what happened is way suspect... who does that? Doesn't pass the smell test and has manure sprayed all over the incident.

Woman taunts Thai man for failing to preform, performing too fast, or being too small.

In return Thai man gets angry and hits woman.

Next woman seeks revenge by shouting 'rape'.

Yes, he shouldn't have hit her

But the outcome is predictable.

I take your point.

I do think the other details matter in the sense that they do or do not support her statement that she did in fact say no. On the whole I think they do.

The assault and the apparent attempt to leave town are damning for the guy.

If that was the case, why does the article describe him as a "host"? In the area of host bars perhaps "barman" has exactly the same connotation as "bargirl".
