Some of you laughed at me when months ago I suggested best contribution Thailand can make to USA war effort is to let the sailors loose on streets of Pattaya to recharge their batteries. There you have it 😂😂😂

Trouble is a lot of these youngsters will not want to go back on the Lincoln once their ashore & discover the delights of Chonburi , might be a few AWOL

Agreed with your post but San Diego based carriers are berthed at North Island NAS on Coronado Island.

I pity people in Pattaya. 5,000 sailors who just set a record for days at sea ... what a <deleted> $how this is going to be. Honestly, if I lived there, I would consider a vacation to "Anywhere but Pattaya"

On the matter of spending, the quoted estimate might be close....excluding 'take-aways" and freelancers....their secret incomes are very difficult to assess.

When US carrier groups....7-10,000 sailers,marines and others...visited Hong Kong regularly, one Mamasun I knew well laughed at the suggestion that they (gogo girls and bars) would make a fortune.

"No ah...they cheap Charlies...only come in ,sit on one drink long time and only look at girls...not barfine girl, only look and leave.

And yes, their military police kept things in order with swift, rough, justice.

Only fights were amongst the crews, not with locals.

Don't think they did/do any immigration.

Came ashore in ferry boats, dressed in "civies" and offloaded on HK Island.

USD accepted anywhere, no need to exchange money.

And all this was after the handover back to China!

It's always fun to watch all the people on shore leave having a good time.

I've seen it firsthand in Pattaya, in Phuket, and in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

I haven't talked to any current Navy guys recently, but I spent about six years living in the San Diego area, and that place is crawling with active and retired Navy people. And almost every one of them can tell you stories about shore leave.

Good for the local economy and small businesses as cash is coming in to town!!!

I suspect this port was not intended primarily for an R&R for ship sailors.

Recall that the carrier has not been resupplied for 200 days while deployed in the Middle East due to Iran destruction of US supply depots in UAE (kept secret by Hegseth). As it's about a month travel from UAE to San Diego port without stopping, travel from Thailand to San Diego is about two weeks. Thailand likely can provide critical ship supplies for sailors and materials for repairs needed for final sailing to San Diego as well.

I don't doubt they had replenishments. But from where - Singapore? Also I guess that refers to replenishing the whole carrier group, not just the carrier itself.

Replenishment means underway replenishment done by Military sealift Command. Fujairah, UAE is a big spot for these USNS ships to pick up supplies for fleet as well. Point being they were most certainly replenished during the 200 day underway period.

Right. But if UAE port wasn't accesible how does that work. When you say 'sealift' you mean airlift out of UAE?

The ships medics better stock up on certain medications....Up to your imagination...

It's the name of shipping company that can get supplies from shore and resupply the carrier.
