Pattaya readies for USS Abraham Lincoln crew

As a Merchant Seaman back in the day I can only remember one place that we unloaded at where we were not only scrutinised but were photographed and issued ID cards.

This was a port in Jugoslavia called Rijeka where we were followed by Tito’s security goons every time we went ashore. That apart, there was no other ID/Immigration problem anywhere else in the world.

I hope these Mariners don’t have to go through long queues and that they have a well deserved R+R after playing their part in “Operation Epstein Deflection “.

Going back over the years, to the 1960s and 1970s, American servicemen were always unfailingly and notably polite around town, and among the nightlife, during stopovers in Thailand. Hopefully that has not changed.

This particular carrier isn’t due to be decommissioned for a number of years. 50 is the goal. About 14 left.

Returning from a routine or extended deployment isn’t “decommissioned”.

Yes, very much so. Reung Ruen bus services make a killing!

Lots of hype over this, seen the Navy coming inn for years. These days Usually very well behaved and polite. More likely to see groups of them in central catching a movie, going bowling , shopping , hanging out in restaurants.

They dont let 5000 off at the same time, and the ones that do get swallowed (some pun intended) up in the city.

Not saying a few may want a Legover on 6………

Contrary to all the expat imaginations, these guys will flood the Malls and fast food joints. The majority will have a strict curfew and will be warned about human trafficking.
