Phuket protesters oppose Rosh Hashanah event

Rosh Hashanah is a Jewish holiday, not an Israeli holiday. It symbolizes the Hebrew New Year.
Anyone protesting is protesting the Jewish religion, i.e., anti-Jewish demonstrations rather than anti-Israeli. Yes, many Israelis are creating legal and cultural difficulties in Thailand. That does NOT mean all Jews (regardless of their nationality) should be kicked out. I remember learning as a child how the Jews were constantly being kicked out of this country or that during the Middle Ages. Looks like it's not only the USA that is returning to the Dark Ages.
How would the protesters view organized resistance to Loi Kratong?

The Hasbara spinmeisters have gone into overdrive to make these protests look like they are being provoked by outsiders, "antisemites", "Jew haters", or local Muslims.

Nothing could be further from the truth. They are a reaction by Thais to attempts by Israelis to dominate certain locations using fraudulent means to buy land, houses, and businesses.

This contentious issue has the potential to divide Thailand into two camps... pro and anti-Israel factions.

Only recently have Israelis and other refugees from warring states been engaged in proxy ownership deals on a scale this large.

That is what is driving these protests, not some sort of irrational 'hate".

Low level dislike and discrimination against Israelis is nothing new in Thailand.

Oldtimers in Chiang Mai will remember occasional instances of guesthouse signs declaring them unwelcome.

As long ago as the early 1980s the biggest mountain trekking outfitters in CM banned them after getting so many complaints from their hilltribe guides about obnoxious behaviour.

In those days it was all about the way they acted. So many of them were like children who had been spoiled rotten.

Now the clear and present danger is the establishment of enclaves through dishonest means, aided and abetted by crooked Thais just in it for the shekels.

Not surprising to find a significant number of the aggrieved Thais present are not of a religion that you approve, as they have quite likely been the very Thais on the receiving end of the notoriously unpleasant Israeli tourist/expat behaviour:

More likely is that they are just Muslims who dislike Jews .

This is all about Thais losing sovereignty over parts of their country.

The fact that so many of the newcomers are a dislikable lot just adds fuel to the fire of these protests. To say they are being incited by a few hundred local Muslims is beyond ludicrous.

In the near future look for the Israeli Embassy to stir up countermeasures to suppress public displays against Israel and Israelis.

An effort to get the Thai govt to impose a crack down on free speech can be expected.

How the more intelligent Thais react to all this remains to be seen.

I really doubt they have any idea what Rosh Hashanah is - nor do they really know what 'Jew' is. To them anyone frequenting a place like this is 'Israeli'. In other words Jew and Israeli are the same to them.

People saying the racist Jew hating signs were not illegal per se and that's likely true.

HOWEVER, if protesting people were doing similar targeted at THAI people, I think there probably are laws to cover that related to inciting social disorder or such like.

But it was against non-Thais so no worries.

They definitely don't know what Rosh Hashanah is about but to people that do, aggressively protesting Jews observing the High Holy Days is particularly obscene.
