Phuket Staff Expose ‘Worst Tourist Behaviour’ in Viral Post

A social media post has sparked debate in Phuket after highlighting complaints by hotel and restaurant workers about tourists from three nationalities, with immediate attention drawn to alleged problematic behaviour in the province’s hospitality sector.

The Facebook page “Phuket Times ภูเก็ตไทม์” published a poll described as reflecting views from service industry staff in Phuket, asking which nationalities were considered the most difficult in hotels and restaurants. The post claimed that Israeli tourists ranked highest, followed by Indian and Russian visitors, based on reported behaviour from operators.

According to the post, Israeli tourists were accused of fabricating claims about lost items in accommodation, but hesitating when police involvement was suggested, saying they would search again first. Indian tourists were described as staying multiple people in one room and being prone to complaints and disputes. Russian tourists were alleged to refuse payment after meals by claiming the food was not satisfactory.

The claims quickly gained traction online, with social media users sharing their own experiences and opinions, leading to widespread discussion. The post did not cite formal data or official statistics, but presented the results as feedback from workers in the local tourism and service sectors.

The discussion comes amid ongoing scrutiny of tourist behaviour in key destinations such as Phuket, where the hospitality industry plays a central economic role. While anecdotal accounts often circulate online, such claims can influence public perception and potentially affect relations between businesses and international visitors.

Industry observers note that social media polls may not represent the full picture and can amplify selective experiences rather than balanced data. However, the viral nature of the post highlights underlying tensions and challenges faced by frontline service staff dealing with diverse tourist groups.

Amarin reported that authorities and tourism stakeholders have not issued an official response to the post as of the report’s publication. It remains unclear whether any follow-up actions or investigations will take place regarding the claims made.

Probably 20 years ago an old friend had NINE ladies, lady boys, etc in his small Bangkok hotel room, all at the same time. He was certainly a 'party-animal'. I believe that on that night things were stolen from his room.

Another time he had had 2 ladies in his room. He was a pot smoker, and the next morning the cops entered his room and went straight to his pot-stash. We suspected that the young ladies had dobbed him in to the cops. He got 18 months probabtion and a fine, after being carted off to Lumpini police station.

Know a guy who did photo shoots with LBs for a few years, he would always need to first hide all things like the menu, coffee machine, bath robes etc, before they came in lol. Once they forgotten the menu they ordered all sea food for thousands of baht.

He would just always get them in 1 by 1 of 2 by 2.

Please do not try to explain to him that the topic was about Thailand. he has bug up his ass about Americans... Maybe some Chad or Tyrone from America took care of his babe...and left him.

If you can't figure out why I am ashamed of the behavior of my own nation at this stage of the game, there's no point in me trying to explain it to you. Keep on with the Kool-Aid, it seems to be working.

The 'third hand' comment reminds me of Americans at airports being demaning. Seen it several times; yelling 'where's the line for American Citizens' etc.

I gonna take a stab and guess that you haven't seen it once.

Just seems unlikely to me.

I once brought over 10 girls into a room with 3 friends using the basement elevator. Plenty of hotels would not check ID on guests during most of the day too, that would be evenings where you arrive and it is obvious a prostitute, that is for your safety mainly, that they ask it, if they do. The world is bigger than your bubble.

BOB!!! Is that you reincarnate?

Well, there is little else left. The Chinese are also not the icing on the cake and all other tourist sources dried up, some of it due to problems in their home countries and others simply because of the bureaucratic corruption, dual pricing, cheating and lying from early mornings to late evenings. Complete absence of common sense did the rest.

Deal with it and try to make the best out of it. As the semi-divine hardly want to accept mistakes or the will to learn/adopt, only future will tell, what happens with the tourism business. By figures 7% of the Thai population drive in ⅓ of foreign reserves so you want to be having second thoughts before blaming the dirty farang for this, call them "rich" or scare your children with "the farang will eat you" (as so heard twice in queues at supermarkets by mothers not being able to manage their completely spoilt brats behind me in the queue).

Every time I hear stories like this I think man what the hell is happening to America... and then I remember the country is being swamped by millions of 3rd world immigrants so there's really no such thing as an American anymore just people residing in America.

You do know that American is a country of immigrants. Right???

I am an American and was not ashamed when the other party was in power. And, the survey was about Phuket. If you have a bug up your arse about your home country, you should go home and figure it out. I love my country. No country is perfect, but I will never be a traitor to my own people.

Since when has being critical of one's nation or one's government's policies risen to the level of being a traitor? Last I heard America was still a democracy, which means there's room for discourse, am I incorrect on that?

This is interesting because I've been called a lot of things in this lifetime, but I've never been called a traitor before. Alot of my friends actually consider me to be quite loyal, but I guess because I don't agree with all of Trump's policies I'm also a traitor now.

So could you please explain to me how this works. Where can I turn myself in, and who should I turn myself into, so that I can be tried for sedition against my nation. Once I'm found guilty how will the punishment be carried out? Will it be through electrocution, or the gas chamber, or will it be boring old lethal injection? Perhaps they will they hang me? Perhaps I will be one of the first to be brought before the fascists newly formed firing squads?

I need that information so we can proceed with my execution. You need to provide that and show us that you're a truly patriotic American.

Vast majority of arabs have a stinking attitude they all think they are above everyone else

Depends where they are from. Arabs isn’t a particular nationality. What I can say from 40 years of experience ,is the middle eastern countries, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Saudis, Bahreïn etc are very well educated travelers and you never hear a peep out of them. And this goes for the average population to the upper royal connection . A pleasure to have them at your establishment.

On the contrary, North Africans , Tunisiens , Moroccans etc are often the trouble makers.

Israelis are the worst. Demanding preferential service and often remark on the costs, leaving tables a total mess, and where kids are concerned , it’s chaos. In the past, I’m now retired , we would recognize such and just say full house.

Indians also are very awkward, bothering staff to practically feed them , constantly calling to move one dish 6inches.

Americans have often shocked us, although better these days,

Snapping fingers for service, to which I asked them to leave. More a lack of manners problem.

Normal tourists behave normally, most of the rubbish that come to Thailand, simply think they’re entitled and look down on Thais.

I was taught in school that immigrants were vetted and came to my country legally. My ancestors came through Ellis island. What many people nowadays don't seem to do is know the difference between illegal and legal immigration. Do you all get it now??

They do it in Europe too but your algorithm would never show that. Also does your BRAIN ever make you realize how many people they don't show who answer all the questions correctly???

I have stayed in many places in Thailand and I found that most travellers from most countries are decent people.

There have been some rude Russians at a few 7/11s, but i just say, hey can you move out of the way so i can buy

some stuff. I will not stay at places that are over run by a lot of Indian tourists, and know what parts of

the country they mostly visit, and which places they stay, so it is fairly easy to avoid them. i have not seen or chatted with many Isrealies

so i have not had any problems with them. i have left a few bars where a number ov very drunk people from Australian,

and the UK were partying, and that saved me from gettign into a row. I still enjoy my visits to Thailand, and enjoy the

food, the beaches, and the great climate. It sure beats a metre of snow and below zero temperatures.

A lot of these arrogant international tourists seem to be unaware that they are a guest in a foreign culture.

This is what I have said a couple of times in the past and actually got some thumbs down here. When you travel, you are a Guest in any country you visit. You are not entitled to anything. People should be grateful that they are being able to travel and experience other cultures.

Back in the day, I would read (yes in books) on what to do and how to behave when traveling to different countries. Not going to say anything else, or will get "scolded" by some people.

Everyone, please have a calm and peaceful day !
