Thai Gangs Recruit ‘Dumb’ Brits to Smuggle Drugs

A UK Channel 4 documentary has revealed how criminal gangs in Thailand recruit young ‘dumb’ Britons to smuggle cannabis and other drugs into the UK, using free holidays, cash incentives and violent threats to pressure them into carrying drugs through airports.

In a clip from Untold: Inside Thailand’s British Drug Gangs, a female recruiter known as “Zee” described how her network targets “young and dumb” people with little money. She told investigative journalist Tir Dhondy that recruits are often persuaded after hearing friends had successfully completed similar trips.

Zee said gang members arrange and pay for flights, hotels and expenses in Thailand before instructing recruits to return to the UK carrying suitcases mostly filled with cannabis. She claimed the recruits are treated to a “nice time” before being sent home with the drugs.

She described the fear experienced by couriers before departure, saying: “They know the risk.” Zee also issued threats against anyone attempting to back out, claiming gang members would kill those refusing to carry out the operation.

The documentary examines how organised gangs manage the trafficking process, including packaging drugs, booking flights, arranging bank transfers and preparing suitcases. Zee said: “We all get involved. It’s nationwide.”

Thailand has some of the world’s toughest drug laws, with severe penalties for trafficking offences. Importing or exporting Category 1 narcotics such as methamphetamine can carry the death penalty, although executions are rare. Life imprisonment remains a common punishment for serious trafficking offences.

The programme also highlights several recent cases involving Britons caught transporting drugs from Thailand. In February 2024, 22-year-old Poppie Kudiersky avoided prison after being arrested at Manchester Airport with 28.5 kilogrammes of cannabis. She claimed a gang threatened to murder her five-year-old son and burn down her home if she refused to smuggle the drugs.

Former public school pupil George Wilson, 23, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, faces the death penalty in Thailand after allegedly attempting to smuggle 9.15 kilogrammes of methamphetamine, he claims to have received from another Brit, in October 2025 (video below). Thai police said the drugs were hidden in a suitcase beneath flipflops and a towel.

Influencer Ellie Crampsie, 23, from Glasgow, was jailed for 16 months after arriving at Edinburgh Airport in April 2025 with 17 kilos of cannabis in her luggage. She admitted the offence but claimed she had been manipulated by a former boyfriend.

The Daily Mall reported that the documentary is now streaming on  UK Channel 4 and investigates the full scale of British-linked drug trafficking operations in Thailand.

Finally, it comes out in the light! Wonder if that might be the reason we read about the same nationality regarding other very stupid, dumb and ignorant things in the news.

Like kicking people in the back for sitting on some beachside steps.

Best not throw too many stones if you live in a glass house.

Young people tend to be young and dumb no matter the nationality.

There are several tv show series that air in USA, one highlights smugglers getting caught in Australia and arriving from Thailand, and other countries. All walks of life try this, most claim IDK how it got there and it’s not mine. One show focuses on OZ arrivals and caught with contraband/drugs, was called Nothing To Declare and Border Security.

Sad for the families of those that do this.

I imagine there are many reasons why someone would take this risk, but it may not turn out good for them.

It's definitely all the M150 and vapes and cheap weed that are leading these otherwise quite decent young Britons to serve the satanic drug trade.

Time to dig up Bronson.

The brits here may be more visible here in their stupidity, but it's ludicrous to imagine that there aren't equal amounts to go around.

This is going on World wide, just because young people come from well to do families this doesn't ensure that they won't break the law. A guided tour to Bang Kwang Prison might smarten them up.

My nephew did time for drug dealing. He wasn't a user but was selling for a "You Know Who." He needed money as he was unemployed and he potted his girl friend. He's been straight now for over 15 years but he still shudders when he tells what life was like while he was locked up.

Throughout history no amount of enforcement or punishment has ever made a dent in this, and never will. It is greed fueled by huge profits, supported by ignorant suckers who take the fall, and at the bottom of the heap you find the wretched addicted, who are the ones who mostly fill the jails. And when those addicts get out of jail, what do you think happens? They go right back where they started - their addictions. Does anyone think that you can eliminate greed and profiteering from the entire human culture no matter where you go? Dream on. Another round of whack a mole.

No guided tour is going to smarten anyone up. Do you think Thailand is going to want to present that image to the world, to the tourism industry? "Come send your misbehaving spoiled kids on our Thailand Jails Tour, that will cure them of their irresponsibility!" Unfortunately young people learn a lot of things the hard way, that's how it's always been. I'm GENUINELY happy for you and your nephew having beaten that terrible curse, but sadly he is in the small minority of repeat offenders whose lives end up ruined. My brother died of an OD, and 15 years later his only son also died of an OD and none of the family members even knew, except about 2 years after the fact. We still don't even know where he's buried. I can't even name him in my will. I have no kids, wife, to leave anything to, just one other nephew. What I think would be a good idea is if a law were passed that would make this documentary required viewing on the flights here, but that makes too much sense, doesn't it? Cheers mate.

If only they would revise the visa rules as you suggested. That might cut out silly comments as well as fixing all the other ills in the world at the same time.

You never did reply to my question. Do you think that these people would be refused a visa?

If the answer is no, why did you suggest revising visa rules? Seems a silly irrelevant suggestion to me, but maybe I’m missing something? Hence my request for clarification, which you seem singularly unwilling to provide. I guess it’s easier to deflect.

No one would trust a Thai to get anyone involved in smuggling weed, they may be be stupid, but they aint that stupid, the Thai,s would sell you down the River at the drop of a Hat, the reason this is happening is because of the cheap price of legalised weed in Thailand, compared to prices in Europe. The legalisation of Cannabis in Thailand, along with its very lax Law enforcement, lit the green light for international crime gangs to target the Country as an easy gateway to make money, theres always a patsy to take the chance to make quick money. The idea that Thailand could possibly control the criminal entitys that have flooded the place since its legalisation, was naive at best, downright criminal at worst, but money talks, once you open Pandora,s Box, you cant close it....

Yep 💯 correct. Thais are not the gangs behind this , that’s just channel 4 journalism for you. This is all UK gangs sending people over for free holidays and to come back with weed in suitcases, they are called flyers. They would also have people there who work at the receiver airports like Heathrow to move things along more smoothly. The only input Thais will have is being the link to buy bulk in the country, nothing more.

Well they would have to be Brits because the “dumb” British government keeps the prices sky high. Just look at all the new recent multi millionaires in California that have been made since they legalised it. Who do you think they made their money from…..

Why would someone confess to the media the fact they are forcing people to be drug mules?

Probably what is happening is they recruit willing mules, they tell them if they get caught they should say they were forced into doing it.

So this documentary was made with the help of the gang in order to make the claims of being forced into it more real, that way the mules are more willing to volunteer to smuggle the drugs.
