Agricultural Land Reform Office (ALRO) secretary-general Sompong Inthong said Monday (Sept 4) that it was misunderstanding on the part of the recipients of land reform plots in Kok Soong district of Sa Kaeo that they would immediately get water and electricity supplies once they received land rights certificates.

Landless farmers who were given land plots in Kok Soong district of Sa Kaeo province at a ceremony chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Aug 28 have complained to the media that all the public utilities that worked quite well when the prime minister was there are not functioning.

A few days after the ceremony, officials had taken away the power poles and electrical wires and the tap was dry, they said.

" You do not understand! I needed to put on a show for the PM because he is important. On the other hand, you are not important. Now do you understand?"

I recall a similar local project for bio-diesel, over a decade ago, everything worked on the big day but it's now long been disused, still it made a good media-story at-the-time !

Let's hope that the poor farmers get their power/water back, now that this story has been published, I wonder who got the equipment when it was removed ? :whistling:

Similar article yesterday's BP under heading fake news contained news that due to a lack of electricity farmers have to light bonfires at night to protect themselves and their cows. From what, wolves, bears or ghosts?

I would guess the people they "borrowed" it from for this pr event.

"Mr Sompong said he had already explained to the 63 land certificate recipients that it would take time for their village to have access to tap water and electricity, but he assured that by next April the public utilities would be ready for the village."

They already had access to the utilities as they were there last week but for whatever reason they were then removed.

Misunderstanding my ass, unless the General has absolutely zero sense of shame he'll get what is vital for the success of the project he was happy to take credit for reinstalled asap.

Hang your head in shame secretary-general.

I sincerely hope these people are not fobbed off by this bs. And i doubt he already explained to the recipients that it would take so long,, probably his aide or assistants had to meet these kind of people.

Landless farmers ? So are they farmers ?

Yes. Or  potential farmers. But    quite  likely   allocated  plots  of  land which  if  they  demonstrate willingness  to  farm  profitably  or  productively will  eventually  be  permanently registered  in their name.

Potempkin villages comes to mind...

IMO an unfair  comparison. The  Thai  land allocation to  otherwise landless  is  no illusionary system.

It is/has been  conditional and the  general  abuse  of those  conditions   has/is almost invariably  by the  recipients by  way  of illigitimate sale.
