Language police alert this morning eh?

I am certain English is not ezzra's native language, thus IMO merely  a minor discrepancy understood by all.

His English is superior to that of many native speakers.

One unfortunate thing nowadays is the number of channels on TV coming from the 'good ole USA'.

It makes it much more harder for to learn like how to talk proper.

This embracing of the leading class in Thailand of China and Chinese is disturbing at least and very dangerous in the long run for the real Thai people.

China is a one party state with no democracy at all, a country that is trying to control all countries around it, a country that still believes they are the middle kingdom, a country with no respect for human life at all, and foremost a country that in all its dealings has a strategic goal.

For China.

No self respecting country should have dealings with China while so many neighbouring countries have problems with that country.

Errr ... wouldn't that be "No self-respecting" (with emphasis thereon, perhaps)?

Did they already have the idea to poll the Chinese tourists about which chinese language they speak: mandarin, cantonese, che-che, ..., or establish the geographical origin of those beloved quality tourists...?

Oh, but this is not about the tourists, this is about (a?) Thai institution(s) taking sreps to get closer to 'big brother' China, with its imperialistic and neo-colonialistic policies, then mandarin it must be!

Could it be to prepare the 'never colonised brave' Thai to understand well 'his master's voice''s wishes and orders in a near future, to achieve a smooth transition, which didn't work out well in Tibet, to chinese domination(*), maybe...?

On another side, I can't remember Thai officials and staff, from Parliament or elsewhere, ever to have been encouraged in such a way to learn english... No doubt it shows a lot about the way of thinking of Thai officialdom.

(*) Not taking into consideration that Thailand is already most totally dominated by persons of Thai nationality, ...but of chinese origins, and living according to chinese principles and tradition among their own circles of influence...

As English is the universal language wouldn't it be better to learn english?  I also believe that Prayuth has plans to make Thai the world language, well that was he plan awhile back.

maybe time to get aware of the fact that times are changing...

If you look at the poster behind the officials at the last BRIC meeting,

you'll realize, it was written in 2 languages: English and Mandarin.

Maybe, the Thai are more realistic about, where Asia -and especially Southeast Asia- is drifting to?

When the USA abandoned the Trans-Pacific-Partnership, they opened the door for the PRC Chinese and sent a clear signal, based on Asian business values: they are a "partner", who cannot be trusted, because they do not adhere to their commitments.

China having huge influence on Thailand, due to their sheer economic and military power, is nothing knew to the Thai and they handled it quite smart already long ago:

Already the Ayutthayanian kings paid tributes to China and asked the Chinese Emperor often to confirm their new kings ...

not unlikely from their point of view, they are just changing one empire against another empire:

"World Greatest Country" against "Middle Kingdom"

Oh, thank god the stranglehold of the english language is finally loosen. Lots of government ministers are of chinese descents so it wouldn't be hard for them to learn chinese.

The tyranny of the english language is finally beginning to slowly disappear.

The English language from an unknown dialect of the anglo-saxon on the Thames river, competing with the rest like welsh, Irish, scottish and celt. (cockney is most well known). Because of the trades on the Thames improved with ships from colonial countries the English language overtook all the other dialects and became an established language of commerce. Then finally its stranglehold on all other languages overseas.

Like Latin, Greek, Arabic it will die a slow death.

er why? have I missed something here? are we not about to see free democratic voting of a new Government ? Would that not mean a change of Parliament ? If you are going to learn a foreign language, does that not take time? Perhaps certain people have decided they aren't going anywhere soon......

You should thank God that you, obviously, are not in its stranglehold!

More to the point 74 out of 150 parliamentary positions are selected, while 76 are elected...

The out of the 76 that are elected how many are/will be from the majority winning political party?

Fair chance is it will be less than the 74 selected officials....

Welcome to the Thai flavour of democracy where a democratically elected political party can hold fewer positions than the army or police, possibly both who hold the majority of the 74 selected positions!

It is not a shadow government, but a parallel one, always ready to take over in a coup should things not go their way. And that is the way it always will be, untill the number of selected officials is significantly diluted from 74.

I think it is a very good idea and fits perfectly with the PM Road map...

Should not take more than 20 years for the current official to speak Chinese properly...

Then we can have elections :whistling:

Whether one likes it or not, Chinese are discreetly buying up and practically ruling the world...so they won't adapt to Shakespeare or Rama...Instead, Shakespeare and the descendents of Rama would rather need to embrase Sun Tzu!!!!:sorry:

And it could be a smart move to learn how they speak and function....

If it reaches the quality of the English subject line they will still have an uphill struggle.

You forget that many 'Thai' people are of recent Cchinese descent. Not so long ago they changed their names from Chinese to Thai, and in the 70s those who were civil servants refrained from reading Chinese language newspapers in the office to show how 'Thai' they were. Many of the rich entrepruners  have  Chinese ancestors

Key phrases from lesson #1:

"The envelope should be brown and contain 8% of the contract value in cash."

"My Panamanian bank account number is...."

"The tickets should be in first class and for my wife, my parents, her parents, our children and their families."

only 8%  ?   I thought the going rate was 10%, same same Nigeria
