Shaving cut cure

Ok so today I cut myself shaving ,  (please call 911)

For a couple of years now I take a baby aspirin every day , and I think because of that I could not stop bleeding, nothing serious but annoying.I put a piece of toilet paper on, and after a while it stopped . when i removed the toilet paper it started again. Toilet paper again, this time I used water to dissolve the paper and it worked, went sleep , next day while taking a shower, i must have scraped it  and started bleeding again. 

  So off to the pharmacy to get some Styptic or similar stop bleed.

   We are in Khon kaen.

everywhere I looked, Mi Me (don't have) I ask the wife , what do Thai men do when they cut themselves shaving, she say , go to clinic!! You are kidding me right? she gets mad at me.

Going to the states next week, will bring some back with me , but out of curiosity.

Where can I find such item in Khon Kaen??

Have you considered prevention is better than cure? Maybe find a substitute for the Aspirin?

 

I don't know the reason you need to take one everyday, but It seems a better solution to try removing the source of the problem.

Hi,

I have looked everywhere in Thailand for styptic pencils but have always had to get them sent over from UK.

There is something here called "san som" and don't get it confused with "Sang Song" which is Thai rum.

"san som" is or are like rocks or crystals used for clearing water like a "flocculent."

If my swimming pool starts to go green with algae I use this stuff to clear it.

Anyway I buy this "san som" from the local DIY shop and it comes in small pieces in a plastic bag for 30 baht.

Much cheaper than styptic pencils.

It works just the same and stings a little when used on a cut.

I don't know why you are taking "Baby Asprin". Prescribed Asprin is intended to make the blood thinner. I take prescribed asprin (Cardiprin 100gm) which is intended to keep my blood thin and therefore assists the smoother flow of blood through the heart, bleeding is not easy to stop when taking this medication.

Has the OP tried a bit of newspaper, wetted with saliva? Sounds primitive but has worked for me and my dad before me. Only problem, you end up looking like Norman Gunston (memories of my days in Oz).

If you have room, get this plant.  You break off a stem and rub the sap on the cut.

Black tea. After a recent tooth extraction...hard to stem the bleeding, called my cousin's husband who is a dentist in the US, he said moisten a black tea bag and the tannins will clot the blood...in a few minutes the bleeding was stopped.

Baby Aspirin is the prevention... just not for shaving nicks... more importantly it thins the blood a little and helps prevent heart attack or stroke...

Proraso...is a shaving cut gel made in Italy...best product i have ever used in this category. Not sure what shops in the States might sell it but know you can buy it online with no problem. One tube lasts a long time. Google Proraso shaving cut gel. Cheers.

The above is Potash Alum and I post a section below about its blood clotting properties:

 

1. Do people actually use alum to stop bleeding, or only as a disinfectant? Does alum have any disinfectant effects?

   Yes, alum is also used as a disinfectant, and it works in the same way as it does in blood coagulation. In aqueous solution, potash alum dissociates as:

   K2SO4.Al2(SO4)3.24H2O→2 K++2 Al3++4 SO2−4+24 H2OK2SO4.Al2(SO4)3.24H2O→2 K++2 Al3++4 SO42−+24 H2O

   Now, as is known, blood is a colloidal solution, in which the plasma proteins are charged (see Rügheimer et al, 2008). These ions from alum neutralize the charges on plasma proteins, causing the blood to coagulate. Similar effect is observed in disinfectant where these ions react with the free organic acid and thiol groups of proteins on microbes and free proteins, resulting in their precipitation (Williams, 2001). Thus alum can act as disinfectant.

2. Does precipitation of proteins in blood help clotting?

   Coagulation of both plasma proteins and RBCs takes place on application of alum, since both of them are charged (Fernandes et al, 2011) as is discussed in next point. However, it is difficult to say whether coagulation of plasma proteins plays a significant role in clot formation or not.

3. Does alum contribute in any way to the process of blood clotting?

   Yes, alum does contribute in the process of clotting: it makes clotting faster. Although the term 'clotting' is generally used for formation of what is called as platelet plug, the actual process of clotting also depends on coagulation of colloidal particles in blood. When the blood is exposed to the extracellular matrix (due to damage to blood vessel), platelets activate and, via a cascade of reactions, lead to formation of a platelet plug. Red Blood Cells get tapped in this plug (which is actually a fibrin meshwork) and lead to formation of clot.

Other non-synthetic styptics that thin the blood are: garlic, onions, basil, turmeric, ginger, cardamon, allspice -- and virtually all aromatic spices. Plus they don't erode the stomach lining like aspirin can.

 

One of the best and very easily-found styptics is black tea. Simply use a well-wet tea bag.

Fare enough mate, maybe an electric shaver? I know they don't cut quite as clean, but certainly another alternative? Either way good luck finding something that helps.

get some witch hazel spray too, if you can. 

 

however prevention is better….proper pre shave prep helps a lot…..good creams and fresh blades are a must.

 

proraso is the best value product Ive used…but some creams and shave soaps can cost a lot more. many are worth it.

If your blood is not clotting properly you might want to stop the Aspirin for a while. Certain foodstuffs and alcohol are natural blood thinners so you may be overdoing the process.

Get a simple blood test done to determine your INR level and stay off the Cranberry juice.

Sometimes I cut my parrots nail too short and a little cornstarch or flour does the trick.  And if you have no experience with a bleeding bird nail I can tell you it turns into Helter Skelter if you don't take action quickly.

Try Vasoleine or any petroleum jelly. Smear over cut. The jelly also wipes off easy and helps stops re[opening the cut once the bleeding has stopped.

Unless they put cranberry in beer, I don't think Cranbury is my problem

You might be right about the aspirine. and I do drink my fair share of beer.

but I am not sure if stopping abruptly is advisable . I mean the aspirin
