CHIANG RAI: -- A pick-up driver fled the scene of an accident in Chiang Rai after dragging a woman pillion passenger for thirty meters under his front axel.

The bike driver who survived told police that if the pick-up driver had stopped his friend would still be alive.

Tnews called in their screaming headline for the "cruel murderer to be apprehended".

The case has some similarities with the death of the Thong Lor policeman in 2012 dragged under Red Bull Boss's Ferrari.

On this occasion the CCTV outside the Pa Club Entertainment in downtown Chiang Rai was able to capture the accident but not the license plate.

Foundation medics found Netikarn Tawta, 20, with serious injuries. She died soon after in hospital. Chindanai Norla, also 20 and also from Phayao, had non serious wounds to his leg and hand.

Chindanai told Chiang Rai cops later that as he was driving along the road in front of the nightclub when the pick-up came out. He couldn't avoid it but it was not a serious impact.

His female friend was caught under the front axle, however, while the bike and himself were pinned to the front of the pick-up.

He said he banged frantically on the hood of the pick-up to make it stop but the driver just revved his engine and drove faster.

Netikarn was dragged 30 meters down the road after Chindanai was flung free.

The bike and the woman thereafter came free but she was fatally wounded.

The pick-up fled into the night.

Chindanai said that if the pick-up had stopped it could have all been sorted out.

Police are investigating.

There is really going to be a massive spot light on this case and how the police handle it due to the similarities with the Red Bull heir. I expect senior police officials to be running for cover while issuing excuses, denying responsibility, and highlighting 'differences' between the causes.

CHIANG RAI: -- Police have arrested a man suspected of being the motorist seen in a widely shared video smashing into a motorcycle in Muang Chiang Rai Tuesday night – killing a woman and injuring a man.

Video of the hit-and-run was posted on Facebook.

Charnnarong Krongrab, 38, was arrested at his house in Tambon Doi Hang in the same district at 8.30pm on Wednesday night after police were able to determine the truck’s licence plate number from a CCTV camera recording.

The video clip showed a pickup truck believed to be Charnarong’s striking a motorcycle carrying two people. The truck is seen pushing the bike almost 40 metres before it comes loose, at which point the pickup driver flees the scene

Motorcycle passenger Netikan Taota, 20, died in hospital. The bike’s male driver, who was not identified, was severely injured.

Police said Charnarong claimed he fled the scene because he was afraid the motorcyclists’ friends might attack him.

They said Charnarong replaced his pickup’s front bumper the next morning, but traces of the accident were still visible.

Charnarong is charged with murder, reckless driving causing death and injury, and failing to stop to help people injured in a road accident.

He said he left the scene as he was afraid 'he would be attacked'.   No; he left the scene thinking he could get away with it, why else did he not go straight to the police station and why did he change the front bumper ?   Lying scumbag.

RIP the deceased Young Lady.

Lucky the police could identify the plates as I see there was no witnesses who had time to get the plate number around !

The only people I see in the picture are the motor cyclists & 2 people at that food cart that's billowing smoke OR hang on a minute they may have been the motor cyclists friends

More than likely, he was put in the timeframe from a CCTV at another location, and was traced quite easily.

Good work by the police.  Now, they just need to get this scumbag locked-up until he's too old to drive.

R i P to the woman, and I hope the guy survives.
