Overstay: Flight booked but not enough money to pay fine.

Sorry but you seemed to have changed your story again... I notice that in your post 183 you have deleted the first paragraph which originally stated:

If you are not working, then what is so risky to spend 7-8 hours at the language centre per day (including weekends)?

If your friends and relatives are able to send you funds to support you, and you have recent WU receipts to confirm this all the better for you.

Red, I have a question. How would she be digging her hole any deeper? You mean by picking and choosing and not doing what she should do to get out of the hole ie by working at the Language Centre whatever that is?

She already has a problem because of her overstay - the metaphorical hole she is already dug for herself. 

 

If it now comes to immigration's attention that she is teaching English at the language centre without a work permit (which she won't have), she is then working illegally and this could result in her being arrested, taken to Court, fined and deported - this would be digging the metaphorical hole even deeper.

I still remember very angrily and bitterly during my last visit to Thailand at the time of leaving I was standing in a queue at immigration check and there were two fat women from South Africa and the nastier one was hitting my leg deliberately with her handbag and I did not have the courage to tell her politely to NOT DO THAT. And I had stood 'outside' the line to keep from being hit by her bag.

FYI - HBO is only a transit stop where she will change flights to South Africa.

Even with an 11 year overstay the immigration at the airport did not ask how had I survived in Thailand. They wanted the 20k and only after the formalities finished did they really pursue how I hard been spending my time. Due to the severe length of the overstay the senior immigration officer oversaw the process. At that time I enquired if I was banned and he said I could come back the following day if I wished. They are human beings and just doing a job. Regrettably now the ban will be enforced but as you are planning to return that is of no consequence to you. The process takes about 20 minutes, dress conservatively, make sure you have the TM6 card and the 20k and be polite and you should have no problem.

She is not planning to return though, I think. She hasnt said anything about not having the TM6 card, what is it?

TM6 is the departure card which is the second part of the card you give the IO on your arrival.

20k for 11 years is an absolute bargain 555.

It may have been true 11 years ago. But gilo did not say he got out alright recently. There's plenty of water flown through the Chao Phrya since.

He cleared his overstay about 2 years ago before the banning for overstay rules went into in March of 2016.

In the event, they were not actually implemented for another 2 years but in the summer of 2014 it was being openly discussed by immigration and in the media - I took the hint and cleared my situation and have been back in Thailand since then with appropriate visas (my overstay was never a problem in securing new visas or on entering back into the Kingdom). My point though is that I found the immigration officers very decent and remarkably reasonable given the length of my overstay, thus I think that the op should have no problem on exiting so long as she has the requisite funds and given that she has no desire to return the ban is inconsequential for her.

You ignored my previous responses  when I stated that I will wait until end of month for relatives to receive their salaries - also a source of finance. Why do you choose to constantly bring to light "teaching without a work permit is illegal" point? Anyone following this thread knows that. Questions are welcome, but an assessment of my story isn't. 

 

 

Let me ask you this with Moderators' approval of course: how sure are you of getting 10k baht which I believe will remain the shortfall in the first week of October? If you havent got 20k baht, what do you propose to do?

Thank you for your story. Really helpful. Like I said, raising 10k is my only concern - no easy alternatives. Given my fault, I do wish to leave via airport with 20k, a ticket and an ETD. But I don't have the TM6 card - another confusing aspect.

I wish to know if there are any NGOs or charities, travel foundations etc that help travellers in genuine distress, who will help folks on a case by case basis. Looking at the traveller footfall, there should be many, I imagine, whether they will help South African nationals I dont know.

available in south africa.  surely you could

have a friend or family member get a short

term loan for $500 and western union it to

You have genuine issues to worry about but, these days, the TM6 is not one of them. As others have stated, immigration can find the record of your entry in their system (your old passport number might help them) and they will then cross reference a newly completed TM6 with the old one.

1. I would like to know if it is necessary to visit this IBD? Is it advisable to make contact with the IO regarding my departure at the airport when I leave (of course I have to arrive very early)? Should an overstayer be roaming comfortably around such offices? 

2. Do I need an arrival stamp on my ETD before departure?
