The 30-hour course, to be held over three days, is free and open to all participants who can pass the swim test.

PHUKET: While the Phuket lifeguard crisis continues, a ray of light has shone through with confirmation that in November the International Surf Lifesaving Association (ISLA) will be sending 20 Humanitarian Lifeguard Trainers from around the world to conduct their international certification course.

Successful participants will receive the prestigious ISLA International Lifeguard Certification, which is recognised in 24 countries around the globe, explained ISLA Thailand Coordinator Daren Jenner.

Cut the yearly budget about 2 mio baht which was a joke. But accepting now a 600.000 baht donation and free training. No honor only disgusting!

Was thinking the same, the greed is amazing, they have zero shame, right up there with the loads of tsunami money going disappearing.

To call them scum would be to nice.

“We understand the importance of the fundamental standards to guarantee that tourists are confident when travelling in Thailand. Public toilets are one of them,”

All the lifeguards in the world regardless of their training will be unable to help those with zero understanding of the dangers of the rips and the meaning of the red flags.

There will never be enough to watch every one.

imho, a place, primarily depending on Tourism, should have its own properly certified training program.
