Q1. Do you really have to prove you have a return flight within your original 60 day(or possibly 90 as you could extend) if so likelihood?

Q2. Same Question if you leave Thailand and re enter for 30 days by LAND ?

Q3. Same as Q2 but by AIR

Personally I have never been asked before either on arrival or when going to Ranong for visa run but was I lucky?!

Thanks

These days most embassies/consulates want to see an onward flight when you apply for a tourist visa.

Some airlines want to see an onward flight only if you're travelling without a visa.

Immigration officers at land borders or airports usually don't want to see onward tickets, when entering with or without a visa, unless they think you're not a genuine tourist.

Q1 : Depends on where you apply for the visa whether it will be needed for the visa application. You will not need to show it on entry to Thailand.

Q2 : You will not be asked to show an onward flight reservation

Q3 : The airline is quite likely to want to see an onward flight reservation at check in. Under exceptional circumstances, immigration just might want to see it, but very unlikely

A return ticket is not required. You only need a ticket out of the country when you apply for the visa at some embassy and consulates. Many will accept ticket out of the country within 90 days. For entry to the country a return or onward ticket is not required if you have a valid visa.

Joe, I'll be applying for a 60 day visa shortly, and plan a 30 day extension in country.  My flight out of the country is 93 days after entry.  Will the 93 days cause me any grief with the visa application do you think?

It's all on one airline ticket, so I'll have to show them arrival and departure info when I apply.

(I'm planning to do a border run to get the additional three or four days.)

I assume you are an Aussie, and will be applying for the visa in Australia. If so, I do not think they will demand flight details.

If you have a different nationality, or will be applying elsewhere, give us that information and we can advise accordingly.

Yeah Aussie - what gave it away, my superior grasp of English?  Or could you hear my chains rattling?

The visa application document checklist says 'photocopy of airline ticket ... confirming date of arrival and departure' is required, so I could be in a spot of bother.  I'll try telling them I'm making a side-trip via Siem Reap towards the end of the trip if they question it, or may have to spring for a multi-entry visa at an additional B4000 or so.  Apply early and give myself plenty of time anyway.

Damn, all coz the wife wanted that few extra days - I'd prefer to have the days at home before going back to work.

Which checklist are you looking at and from which location. This from the Sydney consulate does not mention it. https://thaiconsulatesydney.org/docs/forms/visa-application-form-a.pdf

If your wife is Thai you could get a single entry non--o visa that would you give a 90 day entry and certainly no ticket out would be needed.

Oh yeah, Sydney / Buriram.  duh.

I downloaded the form from the embassy in Canberra - http://canberra.thaiembassy.org/Home/DownloadForm/7683363417

Interestingly, not only has the price jumped by $50 for a multi entry since I downloaded, but the section 15 wording is slightly changed - there is not a check box in front of 'A INTINERARY or PERSONAL STATEMENT' on my version.  Note the ',' (comma) at the end of the previous line, which gives my version the meaning that all visas require the airline ticket, and the multi-entry tourist visa  requires the additional financial information.  I'd still read it that way actually - all visas need to show travel docs.

Anyway, I'll use the Sydney consulate version where there is no travel doc requirement mentioned - thanks for that, much appreciated.

And the non-O.  We don't have the docs here to apply for that visa, so will gather them on this trip and go that way next time.  Will retire in two years, so will have one more trip after this one to "practice" with the longer-term visa.

when I leave Australia I am always asked to prove I have  an outgoing ticket  from my destination. The  question is asked by the airline  and  I have been told that if I do not have a ticket  then I will be refused to leave Australia.

The onward ticket could be a cheap airasia Bangkok to   Kl or whatever It is the responsibility of the airline you are flying with   to ensure you have  a ticket  and in an event that you are refused entry the airline would need to foot the bill and bring you home.

With a  going ticket the immigration can flick you to Malaysia . yes I know it  sounds crazy but that  is what I have been told by the airlines  mainly Cathay Pacific

I think both of those are for the multiple entry tourist visa. Note there is no and at the end of the first one. I think the tick box or the 2nd one is an error.

Quote

A PHOTOCOPY OF AIRLINE TICKET OR TRAVEL INTINERARY confirming date of arrival and departure. If applying for Multiple Entry Tourist VISA

A INTINERARY or PERSONAL STATEMENT showing the date of SECOND ENTRY and A BANK STATEMENT or evidence of adequate finances in the past six months with a minimum balance of $8,000.00 AUD

The fees went up on the the 1st of July according as shown on this page of the embassy website. http://canberra.thaiembassy.org/Home/visa

Welcome to LOS, the country that used to make it easy to enter/ stay in, but which is now trying to make it as difficult as possible to do anything other than enter with and official itinerary, all hotels booked and a flight out.

The days of arriving, wandering around and popping in and out of neighbouring countries have, apparently, gone.

That is normal if you are planning to enter visa exempt. If you have a visa, it is not necessary. Ask for the supervisor if this is an issue, and the check in staff do not understand the rules.

yes absolutely have it. it doesnt matter what any rule says, this is thailand anything can and will happen. i have been denied entering with a valid visa, just based on false suspicions.
