Making a Trip to Thailand late February and was interested to know if anone has any thoughts on using the above to get money from ATM's whilst there? We heard they were good value? Or any other ideas, on handling money etc

Many thanks

Hi

I usually take british money with me and change there as you get 4-5 baht more/£.

If you want to take some Thai money with you, only change as little as you can to pay for your first taxi ride, tip the porter etc 1000baht plenty

You can now get a Post office top up card, like a phone card. You can put any amount on you like in this country and use it like a Visa Electron card ie to pay for things direct or at an ATM

Hi

And just incase you dont know, there are about three times as many ATM's that take Mastercard/Visa cards in Thailand conpared to the UK. Most have atleast a 10k Baht daily limit but remember nearly ALL Uk Banks&B/socs charge for withdrawals (except Nationwide B/S) :o

Thanks for the info once again guys.

Is there a difference in the rate we would get if we used a Nationwide card to using Cash or Travel Cheques?

Do you know the rates at present?

Soory to be a pain :o

When I was drawing money out on my visa card I was only getting 64-66baht/£ shown on my statement. But exchanging cash(£) I was getting 69.82/£. When I'm out and about I just check each places exchange rate, and when I'm heading back go to the one who offered the better rate.

I think you get a better rate for notes, but I'm unsure about travellers cheques as I dont use them. As Dave said ATMs are all over the place.

3 or 4 days ago it was over 70/£ but I think it's dropped slightly over there now.

IMHO both for convenience and security, ATM is the only way to go... I travel worldwide most of the year and never a glitch... once a machine chewed up the card but I had a replacement within 24 hours.

Cheers, Bapak
