Thai media comes out in support of government plans to stamp out "foreign mafia"

Influential news media Thai Rath has thrown its support behind government plans to stamp out the activities of foreign mafia in key tourist destinations.

But there was little balance - for example, there was scant suggestion that Thai mafia of various kinds was creating problems for tourists.

An editorial supported the crackdown announced by deputy PM Prawit Wongsuwan this week.

Thai Rath said that it was important that all the Thai authorities are singling from the same hymn sheet whether they be police, soldiers or protection agencies.

The goal of making things safer for visitors is a good one and an important target.

They mentioned key areas where work needs to be done as solving the problem of trans-national crime, money laundering, drugs, extortion rackets and human trafficking.

Influential groups that work outside the law must also be targeted.

But Thai Rath also said that it was important - especially in Pattaya - that problems such as theft from tourists were addressed properly.

Good work has been done with those entering the country illegally and those overstaying in the kingdom conducting illegal activities.

And they said that more than ever the Thai public were helping the authorities by acting as informers.

However, they said that much more needed to be done.

The article centered on the misdoing of foreigners with little mention of the role of the Thai mafia in making tourist locations unsafe for visitors.

Hypocrisy knows no boundaries...

" Influential groups that work outside the law must also be targeted "

Steady on there. You'll be upsetting somebody important soon if you do that!!

This article dose nothing else but states the obvious.. like duh, who

wouldn't want to stamp out mafia and organised crime?

and it's also goes without saying that all agencies should work in

unison to achieve this goal.. other than that, good luck to them

in succeeding getting rid of all the mafias in Thailand as many

of the bosses are the very same people entrusted in getting rid

of these groups....

"When all else fails, blame the foreigner!"

An ancient tactic still in use today...

Off course you must get rid of the pest. Foreign mafia must be removed from the country, due to that it´s controversial to the Working Act.
Mafia work is strictly prohibited and reserved only for the population of the country and holders of a degree in law enforcement.

I thought it was April 1st when I saw this.

How about the biggest mafia that took the country by coup?

Always outsiders to blame. Never local miscreants.Farang mai dee.

Foreigners , The root of all evil and corruption in Thailand.

leave your wallets and get out now.

Then the Thais can take it over,

business as normal. :whistling:

They mean 90% of thsilsnf

Eliminate the competition; leave the field free for the home-grown mafia who are easily identified by their uniforms.

But this isn't on the list of reserved occupations and employment!

Thai media? Thai journalism? Has to be the least effective ,open and principled outside DPRK!

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect

probably they do not have work permits , and Mafia jobs are protected as Thai only......

Come on General , go after the Thai Mafia and their  buddies the BIB

The Thai police are the largest organised crime gang in Thailand.

That’s a malapropism!!!

Wasn’t the Choir Boys a

movie about Police Mafia??

Roscoe Rules (Tim McIntire) is exactly the kind of cop you don't want on the job. When he's not getting drunk after hours, he is insulting the citizens he supposedly serves. And his cop buddies are no better, from the always-angry”

Photo looked like a Chinese tour group to me.

Nice distraction from the reality of the everyday problems facing your average Thai.

At least they recognise that there is a mafia problem, maybe soon they will admit their is a home grown issue as well, instead of just blaming it on those pesky foreiners

This article is good to go direct to the waste bin!!!!!!!!!

First of all Thailand has to look up what is doing wrong in their country with the so called" influental people "as they seem to be the worst part of the mafia.

And yes foreign mafia structures have to be traget and killed....but they just only are able to work as they are working together with the thai mafia and the so called "influental people"

I think now you should know who has to be thrown out of the country!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes,, eliminate any, "foreign" mafia,, that's a job reserved for Thai's ONLY!

Add "mafia boss" and "mafia thug" to the list of protected professions. Problem solved ;-)

Stamp out the 'foreign mafia' so ours can get back to work 'as intended'

The government welcomes these mafias with open arm and now stamping them. Are they not paying enough or probably they want to get another group to replace them.
