These people actually believe that their law applies worldwide. The frog committed his "crime" in his own country and was arrested when he came to Thailand. An abomination and a perversion of international law. Sanctions should apply.

The report says that he posted the photos onto her FB and THEN fled back to France and then returned to Thailand

Governments of truly civilized countries need to start forcibly repatriating their citizens, when they run afoul of unjust "laws" such as defamation, lese majeste...etc. A gun in the face always gets results. Thuggery deserves thug tactics as retribution.

It also probably illegal in France to hack someones computer and to upload naked photos of them as well

The internet is a world wide conception , it has no borders .

Thailand's government has no right to prosecute foreigners for "computer crimes". This is a perfectly insane perversion of legal and political power. It is impossible to commit a "crime" online unless it involves fraud or violence.

Thailand's Government has the right to prosecute anyone in Thailand, wherever they come from

I am sure that this law applies to Western Counties as well , otherwise French people could go across the border to Belgium , post illegal photos, then go back to France again

Crap logic that would place any citizen of western countries in danger if they violated Lese Majeste laws by expressing an opinion. There is NO defense of this kind of thinking, regardless of how you may personally feel. It is immoral and deserves the harshest response from responsible governments worldwide.

Well if all else fails play the pedantic card for the defence. Particularly if no legal conception whatsoever.

Thailand is awash in every kind of obscene image and situation and the cops need to hunt down some turd for posting naked pics of his ex-girlfriend. Priorities of the police are puzzling and racist.

For the woman concerned the priority of punishing this scumbag are very clear.

This law does NOT apply to western countries. I cannot imagine a scenario where mere WORDS uttered on the internet resulted in the arrest of a foreigner who visited Europe or America. It is sheer insanity. You would have to actually threaten violence or commit fraud to run afoul of western law. It is the worldwide standard for legal sanity.

Akin to saying a woman deserves to be raped because of what she is wearing.  Utter nonsense

As Prayut once did. Everyone seems very pleased to bash this Frenchmen without any regards to his rights. Where did he commit this 'crime' was it within the borders of LOS where everything is so good and decent or did he do it in France in which case how can they arrst. Also, where does it say he took these photos without her knowledge???

It says so in the op.

Tort, privacy, copyright, and criminal laws offer remedies against people who submit revenge porn.[65][66] Slightly more than half of all U.S. states have laws expressly applicable to revenge porn: Alabama,[67] Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California,[14] Colorado, Connecticut,[68]Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois,[69] Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan,[70][71] Minnesota,[72] Nevada, New Hampshire,[73] New Jersey,[14] New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma,[74] Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia,[75] Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.[76] For example, New Jersey law prohibits both the capture and the distribution of sexually explicit photographs and films by any person, "knowing that he is not licensed or privileged to do so" and without the subjects' consent.[77] The law was used to prosecute Dharun Ravi, the Rutgers student who distributed webcam footage of his roommate Tyler Clementi engaging in sexual activity, after which Clementi killed himself.[78] The law has also been used to prosecute several men who allegedly distributed revenge porn of their ex-girlfriends.[7

Ostensibly, many here believe that expressing opinions can be criminalized by Thailand and the rest of the world should just shut up. What about the insane drug laws in the UAE, where those bringing blood pressure meds through the airport are subject to imprisonment in very harsh conditions? There is no rational .defense of these kinds of laws. Words are not criminal and it cannot be considered criminal to control your blood pressure. International toleration of these laws is the crime, NOT violation of them.

No, many on here believe that people shouldnt post naked photos of other people in the public domain .

The OP is nothing to do with expressing an opinion

On what grounds do you think that this is a set up.

What makes you believe that this is a set up.

A lot of the Thai women I have met are surprisingly keen for me to take naked photos of them.

I even had to 'unfriend' my wife when I caught her trying to upload naked photos of me to my facebook page.

It's a funny old world. I never dreamed of doing this sort of stuff in the UK when I was young.

Unfortunately having naked photos of a Thai woman on your phone in Thailand is against the law (consensual or not) so not a good idea.

Exactly. But some keyboard warriors around here want to keep the door open for 'free' abusive behaviour.
