BANGKOK, 30th October 2017 (NNT) – The Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs and Defense Minister has ordered military commanders to help citizens affected by flooding as well as the rehabilitation effort once waters subside.

Defense Ministry spokesman Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanich, has revealed that DPM and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has instructed the commanders of the nation’s armed forces to work together in reaching out to citizens impacted by flooding, especially as the north, northeast and central regions continue to contend with downpours and flooding deluges.

The DPM told military commanders to monitor and assess flooding and to work with local administrative offices to coordinate personnel and equipment support, asking that they take an active role in alleviating the situation.

Military units are to strengthen flood barriers and enhance drainage where possible and to hand out food and relief items to remote communities. Medical as well as rehabilitative services are also to be provided to the public.

Where floods have begun to subside, Gen Prawit asked that the armed forces perform damage assessments and offer assistance to residents.
