How much do you want to spend? I personally like the Novotel and think it's the best value for your money in town. If you prepay, you can get a rate as low as $60 per night, or $70 per night for a walk-in rate if you ask for the discounted rate. If they quote you some higher rate, just tell them your friend recently stayed there for only $60 per night and they'll almost always come way down in price. They have a great buffet breakfast that's included with all the rooms. The location though isn't in central Vientiane, so depending on where you're going you may need to take a tuk-tuk more frequently than at other hotels, but there's always a tuk-tuk or two waiting outside the front. The hotel has free pickup and dropoff from the airport. Naturally you need to book in advance if you want them to pick you up at the airport.

The Lao Plaza Hotel is very nice and centrally located, but $90 and up for even a heavily discounted room. I don't have their contact info, but you can probably easily find it by searching the net.

There are guesthouses all over town available for under $20, but I have no experience with any of them.
