PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-o-cha urged visitors to follow the rules and instructions of officials responsible for tours of the Royal Crematorium and exhibitions while taking the opportunity to learn more about the monarchy and royal projects dedicated to the people’s well-being.

The Royal Crematorium at Bangkok’s Sanam Luang remains open until November 30 from 7am to 10pm.

Government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said many people visited the Crematorium in the first two days it was open to the public, causing authorities to tighten rules to ensure their safety and to prevent damage to the structures and objects.

After social media postings of misbehaviour by the select group of people allowed into the Crematorium on the first day, authorities closed access to the first and second floors of the Crematorium. Visitors are still able to walk around the outside of the Crematorium and nearby areas and to take photos.

Prior to entering the sprawling site, visitors are required to go through a security checkpoint. They include entries from the Rattana Kosin Hotel, Ta Chang, Thammasat University and Defence Ministry headquarters.

Visitors are being led to the site in groups of 300 people and are allowed 45-60 minutes inside the Crematorium.

Prayut said the government would consider extending public access to the Crematorium beyond the end of November, particularly if strong interest in seeing the site continues.
