The leaders of Cambodia and Vietnam on Saturday pledged to complete border demarcation between the countries before the end of next year. Prime Minister Hun Sen and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the deal over breakfast in Vietnam’s Da Nang province on Saturday, where Mr Hun Sen and a Cambodian delegation are taking part in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

The prime ministers vowed to expedite border post demarcation in 2018, as well as work hard to encourage peace, stability, development, trade, business and tourism along the border. Cambodia shares a 1,270-kilometre border in the east with Vietnam. To date, about 84 percent of the border demarcation between the two countries has been completed.

Var Kimhong, senior minister and chairman of the Cambodia Border Affairs Committee, yesterday welcomed the commitment from the prime ministers. “Both leaders are determined to finish border post demarcation in 2018,” he said, adding the work would hopefully be complete by the end of dry season.
