The National Parks Department’s wildlife crime suppression taskforce, Yiaw Dong, yesterday raided a house in Nonthaburi and seized 76 protected species of wild birds.

The taskforce investigated the sale of the birds online before teaming up with police from the natural resources and environment bureau to raid the house with a search warrant issued by Nonthaburi court.

They said the house owner admitted that he and his brother were trading the birds online. The duo were arrested and charged with illegal possession and trade of wild birds, including common hill mynas, with a value of about Bt126,000.

Meanwhile, wildlife officers from the Protected Area Regional Office 13 in Phrae raided a house in that province and seized more than 600 red-whiskered bulbuls that had been raised in cages without permission.

The house owner was also charged with violation of the wildlife conservation act for possessing wildlife without permission.

So, does that mean the house owner was charged with failing to get permission from the birds to keep them?  Just curious.

Excellent work! Protected species need protecting. Keep it up!

Hey, they're not brothers, they're Thais.  Oh, never mind....
