The owner of a restaurant by the Chao Phraya River in Nonthaburi has confirmed that Dr Yorn Chiranakhon, a senior public health official, drank liquor before the incident in which a car he was driving hit and seriously injured a Public Health Ministry’s security guard on Nov 10, deputy police chief Pol Gen Wirachai Songmetta said on Friday (Nov 17).

Pol Gen Wirachai, accompanied by Pol Col Pannapat Detchotpisit, Muang district police chief, went to Pu Ya Ta Yai restaurant in Soi Saima to interview Narumol Sridaranon, 35, the owner of the venue to gather more information and evidence against Dr Yorn.

Ms Narumol told the police that on Nov 10 Dr Yorn came with another person and stayed at her restaurant between 4pm-7.30pm.

We know! It doesn't matter anyway because he refused to be tested! Stop wasting time and let's start the proceedings to have this man thrown into jail for a nice length of time.

Just delaying so people can start to forget.

He's going to get more punishment off his wife when she finds out about the 'young woman' (as reported elsewhere). Face is a beatch sometimes and she's lost tons. :partytime2:

I get a bit tired of reading alledged.. how can it be alleged (the hitting of the guard) when its all captured on CCTV. Like you said its Thai law that by refusing an alcohol test your automatically guilty. I think part of the reason he refused is because the internal investigation at his job. Maybe similar laws don't apply there and the damages (for his carreer) will be less.

They have re-enacted the table! The mind boggles. No opportunity to pass up on a press photo is ever missed. I bet Khun Narumol gets a few extra customers out of this.

On a serious note, a country run by 14-year-olds.

Hey! That's offensive to 14-year olds.

They aren't re-enacting the table, they are having a few drinks while they investigate Dr Yawn. When they finish the investigation they will jump into their vehicles and drive home.

But he's HiSo so it doesn't matter.  His status trumps any allegations by the 'little people' regarding his behavior.  Look, he's paid some money.  What else is needed.  Justice?  <laughs laughs laughs>.

Yorn will immediately file a defamation suit against the owner.

Such is Thai justice.

Looks like they kept the evidence  -  indeed non-Thai like - most establishment owners would get rid of it thinking they would be blamed for the accident by selling them the liquor.

Sad, but this will no doubt be the ultimate end to this case.  It seems to already be out of the news cycle.  Let the dust settle and the doctor will be back at his post before you can say, "Somtum."
