If it has been 48 hours or less, applying ice is advisable. Longer than that, heating pad may help by relaxing muscle spasms.

 

 

Exercises are very helpful and many videos on the web but how soon to start depends on severity of the injury. Hopefully the doctor gave you some guidance on this
