The National Police chief has said that 82 people have been arrested in call center scams in a recent drive to rid Thailand of the scourge.

A total of 107 arrest warrants have been issued in recent cases.

Jakthip Chaijinda said that seven arrests were made including one ringleader in the most recent case in Chok Chai district of Lat Prao. This raid was conducted by the Tourist Police.

The gang were using VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) to convince victims they were calling from state agencies such as special branch police or the Thai post office.

Victims were fooled into believing that the police had found illegal content in parcels either sent or received by the victims.

To avoid trouble they needed to transfer money into a bank account.

The arrests included both Thais and foreigners.

Jakthip said the drive continues with more arrests expected.

Thanks for the clarification.I wonder what they can do with the lowlife Thais after they've deported the lowlife foreigners? However, I do agree with your sentiment, they are all scum.
