Video: Fate strikes again.... though no one dies in latest Thai road madness!

A dash cam video next to a bridge showed pedestrians and light traffic going about their normal business on a lovely, sunny Wednesday morning.

 

But all hell breaks loose at around 1 minute 35 seconds onwards as a ten wheel truck transporting pigs collides with metal poles on the bridge bringing a whole string of them crashing onto the road next to the bridge along with lumps of masonry.

 

A taxi is lucky to escape as is the Sampran man in the car that was unwittingly filming the incident that happened near the police station by the bridge over the Tha Jeen river.

 

A policewoman then strolls over as the taxi driver and a motorist clear up some of the debris no doubt glad they will get to see another sunny day.

 

The footage was uploaded to a Facebook page using the name "Moo Noi Lan Laa".

 

Police told Thai Rath that the driver of the ten wheeler was 51 year old Khamphan Khamwong from Phayao. He said that he swerved to miss a motorcycle that cut in front of him and lost control hitting the supports.

 

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands viewed the footage with many commenting that they were concerned about the flimsiness of the metal structures that came loose like matchsticks.

 

Weren't they meant to be some kind of barriers, people asked, and would they be replaced?

 

Thai Rath mentioned fate conjecturing what might have been the outcome if the dash cam car had been parked a little further up the road.

 

Last week 32% of Thais polled in a survey said road accidents were down to karma or fate.

You got to wonder exactly what those cement poles are there for. As they obviously only become missiles in a collision and provide no safety barrier. If they weren't there there would have been considerably less damage.

Truck crashes into cheap and sub-standard barrier. Netizens cry foul. Time to remind the netizens of the computers crimes laws. Criticism will not be tolerated. 

 

Meanwhile, corruption will continue, a few pockets will be lined but many lives will remain at risk.

Obviously, the purpose of the barrier is to mame and destroy the bodies of people who are ejected from motorcycles due to fate, not stop trucks from plunging to the ground below.  Think I would rather my fate be something more in line with winning the lottery.  Cheers...

What exactly WAS the cameramen filming when this happened? It looks like there is some sort of building and the truck tried to pass on the left instead of the right.

That motorcyclist without a helmet that arrived a few seconds later should go and buy a lottery ticket!!

Why was everyone driving on the wrong side of the road? Is that a two-lane one way street?

Cameraman's name was Dash.

I will have to add looking up to my 360 driving to stay alive.

Don't waste you time, watch from 1:30 minutes, firstly i thought taxi hit the fence, and landed on the road, it is the truck that hit the fence.

 

Nothing will protect, if your unruly heavy truck hits the fence.  Glad that nothing happens. Just driver carefully, and follow the rules.

They probably removed the noise barrier as the posts were not fit to support it on a windy day!!!!

Exactly! Road design and traffic engineering in Thailand are appalling. Only recently have I seen use of armco barriers, so often traffic is divided by concrete that is in itself a danger to life and limb.

I'm more worried about the welfare of the pigs. And I don't mean the tea money kind.

truck was speeding and the arse end moved out on the curve due to the speed, no bike involved at all, what was surprising were the cars that gave way to their right on the lower streets before the truck came on the scene, very unusual for this to happen, most just pull out

I think they are not barriers, probably installed in preparation for erecting sound barriers, judging from the residential area opposite...

They will be dusted off and sold at the market...never mind they are road kill!

Pigs had less hope than the driver.. on route to the abattoir ... another case of fate or should I say ill-fate!

Well, the truck driver made a right old pigs-ear of that didn't he... I'm told that bridge is somewhat of a swine to drive over....

Yes, one way, it is a departure road from the road going over the bridge.

 

The bridge, over the Tha Jeen river, is to the SSE of the Police Academy (DHC-4 Caribou on site) in Sam Phran district of Nakhom Pathom Province.

 

In the distance the road is a dead end (on the river frontage) to the left. To the right it turns under the bridge and splits, straight on to another dead end (river frontage) and also right, back down the other side of the bridge (as a single carriageway completing a U turn) to rejoin the main road.

 

The building only appears to be on the bridge, it is actually Sam Phran Police station (access from the single carigeway) on the opposite side of the bridge carriageways.
