Police on Saturday morning arrested Jomsap Saenmuangkhot, a former teacher convicted and jailed in a 2005 fatal hit-and-run accident, over an alleged plot to clear her name using a paid scapegoat.

Her friend Suriya Nuancharoen, also wanted in relation to the alleged plot, was absconding but his wife said he would turn himself in in a few days.

On Friday, police obtained arrest warrants from the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Court for Jomsap and Suriya for the alleged plot.

Ten investigators from the Sakon Nakhon police head office arrived at Jomsap’s house in Ban Muang Khai in Sakon Nakhon province’s Khok Srisuphan district at 8am.

Initially, Jomsap did not come out to meet them but her daughter said she was getting dressed. About half an hour later, Jomsap came out to meet police.

She was arrested and taken to Khok Srisuphan Police Station before being transferred to the Nakhon Phanom police head office.

At the same time, another team of police officers from Mukdahan and Cha-uh district police station went to Suriya’s house but did not find him there.

His wife told police that the teacher wanted a few days to prepare himself and he would surrender.

Jomsap was initially convicted and jailed for the road accident that killed Lua Phorbumrung in Nakhon Phanom province on March 11, 2005. She was convicted by the Supreme Court in 2013. When she was released after serving less than two years of her sentence, she publicly claimed that she was innocent.

Her claim gained credence after Sap Wapi came forward to claim responsibility for the accident. The Court of Appeals ordered a review of evidence to determine whether her case should be retried.

The Supreme Court, however, threw out Jomsap’s request for a retrial on November 17 on grounds that the new evidence she had submitted was not convincing although the Justice Ministry pointed out that a new forensic evidence showed Jomsap’s vehicle had never crashed. Instead, the court pointed to the plot to hire Sap to take the blame in place of Jomsap.

Good use of the police resourses.

For a 55 year old woman, wanted on a fraud charge, she does look like she could be a handful for only one or two officers ? :coffee1:

So she was innocent of the initial accident it seems. Sadly she seems to have been so intent on proving that, that rather than use the true evidence, she has dug a big hole for herself and is now looking at a far bigger sentence than she got for the accident she didn't have.

A Thai woman would murder her whole family to 'save face'.  They are born with spiders in their brains, and every once in awhile, the spider will come alive and she turns into a batshit crazy person.   She was so obsessed with saving face that she committed more serious crimes than the original one.................TIT

"His wife told police that the teacher wanted a few days to prepare himself and he would surrender."

I wonder if the police demanded that she tell them where he is? If she would not say, then arrest her on  the spot for aiding and abetting a person with an arrest warrant outstanding!

If they didn't ask, then the police are derelict in carrying out their duties and perhaps should be punished for their failures? :whistling:

But then again maybe some 'friends' involved here?

Mmm. Interesting.

Murder their own family to save face?

Spiders in their brains?

Very interesting.

Has it occurred to you that what you are writing is gobbledygook and you need some form of medicinal help?

Or did you just take that one too many tab of acid in 'Nam?

More twists and turns in this case.

If the above statement is true, and Jomsap's car was not involved in the fatal collision she is innocent of the crime, but she was convicted anyway - then there has been a serious miscarriage of justice, due to the ineptitude of the investigators.

If she is innocent of the original crime, but concocted a lie and conspiracy with her friends to get out of prison - then I admit to having some sympathy with her plight.

So now she, and her friends may be imprisoned for perjury, even though (as it appears from the quote above) none of them was guilty of the hit and run fatality.

Meanwhile, due to poor investigative work (or something more sinister), the guilty driver seems to have got away scot-free.

Not to me it doesn't. That there is no forensic evidence, 12 years later, that a car has hit a bicycle, is far from proof that it never happened. The level of impact required to kill a 75yo rider could be minuscule - anything from a touch on the bike's back tyre to a handlebar brush.
