Phuket’s Australian Consul-General recaps on a year of assisting travellers

PHUKET: Phuket’s Australian Consul-General Craig Ferguson today (Dec 1) elaborated on the duties and encounters of his profession as he marked his first year as Phuket’s very first Consul-General, at a Rotary Club of Patong lunch held at the Millenium Hotel in Patong.

 

Mr Ferguson was appointed Consul-General for Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi in August 2016 by Australias Minister of Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop (see story here) after Canberra announced the opening of a full consulate in Phuket in on May 11, 2015. (See story here).
 

During the lunch Mr Ferguson shared some of his experiences from a year in the job, some of the common mishaps travellers encounter, and some of the misconceptions involved with the consulate’s responsibilities, as second-time guest speaker for the Rotary Club of Patong’s lunch.

Assisting Travellers, what about Expats who have  been orted by corrupt Patong coppers not much help at all  there my friend  Just take the easy way and assist travellers, absolute disgrace

Yessir, sounds pretty familiar, you Aussies are not alone there, that much is 4 sure ...

From time to time Australia+ network runs series "The Embassy", showing Australian embassy in Bangkok and the wide variety of "situations" they help citizens with. Would be amazing if the US embassy (and British, judging from complaints posted here) treated it's citizens so well.

The 'new and improved' Australia+ network now constantly  runs and RE-runs a myriad of out of date  and aged TV series . Over and over again... Its a shell of what it once was.

He must be exhausted after saying " we can't help" and "we don't offer that service" for a year. That must be why he flaked out on his sunbed so often.

This is absolute B_S show When real help is requested all you get is the standard "oh it's a legal matter sorry can't help "

When the police illegally take your passport and demand 200k for it's return you get told 'sorry it's a police matter'Thats the REAL help you get not the B-S stuff they show on TV

Reading the article they are there to assist all Australians not just the tourists. I understand can also get new passport through Phuket office.

Doesn't matter what label we give ourselves we are still travelers on temporary stay permits and able to access consular services as covered by their charter.
