WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump said on Monday his former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, was being treated unfairly, implicitly criticizing the U.S. special counsel's charges against him even though Flynn pleaded guilty.

"I feel badly for General Flynn," Trump told reporters at the White House, and went on to accuse his Democratic rival in the 2016 presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton, of having lied last year.

Flynn, a retired Army general who was a senior adviser in Trump's election campaign, pleaded guilty on Friday to having lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his contacts with the Russian ambassador. He was charged as part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the presidential election and possible collusion by Trump campaign aides.

Trump did not provide evidence or detail about his accusation against Clinton. Clinton answered questions in July 2016 about her use of a private server for government emails while she was secretary of state.

There was never any indication from the FBI that Clinton did not tell the truth.

"Hillary Clinton on the 4th of July weekend went to the FBI Not under oath. It was the most incredible thing anyone's ever seen," Trump said. "She lied many times, nothing happened to her. Flynn lied and it's like, they ruined his life. Very unfair."

Moscow has denied interfering in the election and Trump has denied collusion by his campaign.

As if Donald could understand the difference between the truth and lies! To his addled mind anything he says is the truth and anything anyone else says that he doesn't like is not.

Trump is 100% correct, with so many serious crimes to investigate they obsess over this nonsense for a year now with nothing to show. The funny thing here is that the party that will suffer for the witch hunt is the FBI themselves. Their credibility is shot. Likely the agency will be dismantled - it will be another resounding acheivement for team Trump. The swamp is being drained, and the monsters are not happy.

Because if there's one thing that a big majority of Americans know, it's that Trump is a truth-teller while the FBI does nothing but come up with multiple lies every day.

Wow, I continually wonder how low Trump fans will go, to stick with their hero.  You're keeping me posted on that, thanks.  I won't be surprised if you go even lower tomorrow, and lower still the day after, .....and so on.   Trump keeps lowering the bar on decency, and his fans keep following him down.

Flynn admitted lying to a highly politicized agency. He did not admit to conspiring with Russian trolls to cause Hillary to lose her victory in the election. Courts of law decide innocence or guilt of crimes, not blowhards on internet forums. Your hyperbole is getting ridiculous. Time to calm down and research some facts(not by watching Brian Ross or CNN!!!) before spouting your aggressive nonsense across multiple threads and continually posting personal attacks on those offering a different view.

You don't offer an alternative view, you offer an alternative reality.

During the election when this highly politicized agency determined that they needed to review additional Clinton emails that had been discovered as a result of the Anthony Weiner investigation they were Trumps darling

Quote

President Donald  Trump praised FBI Director James Comey's "guts" for renewing an investigation into Hillary Clinton, seven months before firing him for mishandling the situation.

In the Oct. 31 remarks, Trump, who had previously criticized Comey for not bringing charges against Clinton, said he had to give the FBI credit.

"That was so bad what happened originally, and it took guts for Director Comey to make the move that he made in light of the kind of opposition he had where they’re trying to protect her from criminal prosecution," Trump said at a Michigan campaign rally.

"It took a lot of guts."

Flynn admitted guilt to breaking the law. Sad you don't seem to understand how serious this is. Our leaders are not above the law. They are supposed to abide and uphold it.

Trump supporters don't seem to understand this.

Lock him up!

I think he is right. He himself is allowed to lie and cheat, so why should Flynn be punished for doing the same but on a lesser scale? Makes no sense.

Goes to show how badly the US is doing under the Trump administration. We're going downhill fast.

"went on to accuse Hillary Clinton of having lied last year"

she might have last year, but this year - as far as I know, no one has accused her of lying. Don Trump, on the other hand, has received daily accusations of lying since this year...

Don, dude, if there is such a thing as a world record for being accused as a "Liar in Office", you would be a contender.

Well Freddie, it appears more Americans, according to Trump's favorite polling center, Rasmussen, that FOX News produces the most FAKE news http://www.businessinsider.com/rasmussen-poll-trump-fake-news-trophy-fox-news-2017-11

It's funny because the prize was Trump's idea. But in his version of the contest, he stipulated that Fox be excluded. Now we know why.

Being a liar is a requirement for working near Trump.  Trump learned as a little boy, that lying can get you what you want.  He's never had a problem with lying.  His parents never taught him to tell the truth, and Trump never encouraged his kids to tell the truth.  Telling the truth, is for pussies and losers, in Trump World.

Unbelievable, you and all the like-clickers must have your heads in the sand. So anything against trump is fake news, eh? Have you no recollection of the numbers of outright lies he has made--lies caught on video and fully documented, lies he has waffled on several times, also caught on video? What part of key personnel in Trump's camp pleading guilty to lying, recusing themselves, and indictments being made to other key personnel do you not understand?  And, that stupid little-boy excuse Trump keeps bringing up, "Look over there, the Clintons did it too." What a lamebrain excuse, whether or not the Clintons did whatever; it does not make Trump innocent. The only swamp I see Trump doing anything about is the swamp he is creating--and they seem to be dropping like flies.
