Failure of previous educational reforms admitted as new solutions proposed

Which probably explains why Thai kids only get 20% or so of an education. Too many chiefs at the top in committee after committee, sucking off the money, leaving insufficient funds for the actual education process. And their answer to this is to suggest more committees! And of course, given the perceived brilliance and superiority of Thais in general, looking overseas for intelligent solutions is beneath them, leaving millions of halfwits exiting the schools for years to come.

Hit, nail, hammer..................

What did they expect would happen to the educational budget by bringing in these additional influences? Did they expect expenditure to drop? Surprised that it only rose by 10%.

Until they understand the adage that too many cooks spoil the broth nothing is going to change the situation they are in. Although a relatively new concept, until they can admit their education system is flawed in it's current state and actually address these issues that are causing the flaws, it remains same sh1t, different day.

Doesn't matter how many committees they form, it won't help.

For god's sake, establishing more committees is not going to solve the problems in the Thai education system! To put it bluntly, what problem has ever been solved through the establishment of extra committees?

If you want to make progress in improving the Thai education system, outright fire 50% of the staff at the Ministry of Education. These are the people who created a bureaucratic monster; they are not the people who can slay it.

Clean out the bad Teachers and empower the good ones.

Clean out the bad Principals and empower the good ones.

Clean out the bad Administrators in the Ministry and empower the good ones.

If schools cannot achieve reasonable results on the standardized tests, implement a clean out of staff, both teachers and administrators alike, where needed.

If Thailand wants to have a good future, she needs a well-educated populace that can adapt and overcome the challenges that are coming. At the moment she is unable to do so.

Period.

I've rewritten the last para. for you to correct the miss-understanding:

"The hi-so want to have a good future, therefore they need an uneducated populace that cannot adapt to future challenges. At the moment this is easily achieved and easily maintained."

Herein lies the whole problem.

Good one.

The traditional Thai response to fix any problem. Form a committee or if necessary multiple committees. In this case it is forming new committees to replace the previously failed committees. This is what happens when there are unqualified military types and incompetent self serving bureaucratic fat cats running the country.

Corruption within the education system is rampant which doesn't help. It's right up there in the big league with the police and customs.

Indeed. As I saw on a poster in the UK:

Form a committee, the sensible alternative to work.

Says it all really.

Additionally, those pet projects that benefit the name only and take away essential student programs.... The hubs of n s e w... for shame... legends in their own minds.. and the rest are complicit... not much can be done... as many want a paycheck.. so.. NADA.. Pish posh push the paper.... working hard.. lee..

Now why would he do that? Explore the motivation for him to reach down and take it off, preferring to show a naked wrist with all the implications for 'face' that this would bring.

I'd be genuinely interested, since this is such a good candid photo. What do people read in his face? I know what I read, but what do YOU read?

Is there a Thai word for "auditor", or does that not exist in Thailand?

Please return in ten years for more of the same shameless drivel !!

Start by visiting countries with high education standards, then  implement the  changes to the complete education structure, find out what works what doesn't , above all get some experts in  to guide and even administer advice , oh well been here before,  I'm surprised that it has taken so long since the last review and hey how come Thailand hasn't changed the Education Minister at least 6 times this year.................:coffee1:

All Thai government school teachers should have to move every 5 years to keep them learning and on their toes. I've seen so many just sat in the same job for 20 + years. They've got their own little cozy office, with it's own reclining chair and coffee corner, students drop by to give them massages [and sometimes visa versa]. Their own learning cycle ended years ago, unless you count Facebook, and Thai movies as learning, all the other teachers bow down to them, their English is poor at best, and they teach 10 hours a week. They've got their after school, extra study center, just around the corner from the school, which they aggressively promote during regular school lessons, and students 'have  to' attend if they want good grades.

Kick them all out.

Well said and totally correct...Post of the week...!!!

I agree with what you say but a well educated population capable of thinking could cause big problems for the establishment who would not like the backlash. uneducated people are easier to control.

We had a PM who thought she could improve the education by buying tablet PCs for students.... the fact is that Thailand education ministry has a huge budget, and if you compare it to what and how they spend it on, its mind blowing. Education reform is urgently needed, text book overhaul is needed. Easy way to start is model it after the Singapore education system.

Just model it after anything other than the irrelevant,  out of date, corrupt, and meaningless Thai debacle posing as an education system.
