Define corruption first. Thai and western definition seem different therefore I shall not offer a possible solution.

This is actually a good point, as previous surveys have shown an alarmingly high acceptance of corruption as a norm in Thai life ( higher acceptance in bkk than rural areas)

however, with the international community seeing a decline in transparency, resulting in Thailand slipping from 76th place in 2015 to 101st place in 2016, something is very very wrong in paradise.

criteria for these rankings can be found on the transparency perception list... along with the expert groups compiling the results

He said the patronage system in Thailand is deep-seated so, as prime minister, he is very careful in dealing with people who may try to give him financial and other benefits in return for favours.

As a result, Prayut said he never welcomes people who may try to do so at his residence.

But at the Government House  - no problem!

fix corruption Replace the gov and its departments and cull the police force Must be some good cops there

Mr. PM...I'll help...I'll help...I'll help. I keep seeing this guy in the news wearing a fortune in jewelry...can you enquire?

So, he says, " Thai people help us stamp out corruption," " and take photos and give us evidence, and we will PAY you!" "But, we won't tell anyone about you"............???????

Ask the Aussies police force, they have a way, I believe its called the 7 cents solution. Corruption and crime disappear overnight!

Corruption in Thailand? No impossible! Lets see some major reports in the last year.. Red Bull Boss not apprehended and he's a billionaire- not hard to find. Another the jet setting Buddhist -no reports  and finally Yingluck ex Prime Minister All no reports from Thai media or more importantly the government and all only on Blue Interpol alerts! NB not Red alerts. Plus the fact no updates as to attempts to arrest in months! Only Blah blah blah...Thailand no 101 out of 176 countries ? Come on! Again Thailand  wants to be No 1 which is 176 out of 176. They made No.1 in road deaths. Keep up the Gold medal status Thailand officials!

"PM urges Thais to help beat corruption"

As a Prime Minister you don't, ' Ask or urge" , You only enforce it otherwise nothing will change!

Welcome to Thailand ....  what a beautiful Sunday ...  !

Now thats calling the pot black

It may not be directly applicable to this problem ... but I think that it would certainly help if the Government weakened (or preferably eliminated) the current Libel-Law (not-to-mention the Computer Crimes Act)  -  that might help to reduce (some of) the fears of whistleblowers.

- But unfortunately, the Thai Elite (and those in positions of power) *really* like the current libel-law, and so the Government has *no* intention of weakening it.]

It has to start at the top.  Instead of transferring any official charged with or convicted of being corrupt actually prosecute and try them

In my country's army, it is said that a chief must lead by being an example.....:coffee1:

Also another line that slipped his tongue" If you say to much and we dont like it you will be sent for re-education and your family will be harassed lots" Also if you send to many photos the Thai gov has many shredders and they are used a lot to destroy evidence.
