Because, those renters of this case must have been so depressed, that they worked very hard in acquiring those drugs, oops, I meant so lazy that they had drugs ordered online and delivered...

Drug addiction and alcoholism are also symptoms of depression. 

 

Depression has many symptoms and not all suffering from it exhibit all of them.  

 

Laziness is but one such symptom.

My ex is terribly untidy by my standards, but a model of tidiness by their disaster area.

Having said that, a lot of locals have areas outside the house that look bad, because they only take care of inside and throw all the rubbish outside.

The slums near where I live are like that.

Normal animals generally do not choose to live in squalor.Dens and  lairs etc are normally cleaned by the animals themselves. Unless animals are kept by man in enclosed uncleaned spaces where they defecate, they are normally quite clean. Not far from my home there is an old shack on stilts that is littered with garbage. The occupant has mental problems and his family does nothing to help..

And like I said, when responding to the poster who said drug addiction and laziness aren’t psychological conditions, laziness can be a sign of depression. 

 

Straight As would indeed indicate a positive state of mind.

If you consider the significance of sloth by where the seven deadly sins, or capital vices, originated and have since been promulgated, and by whom, then perhaps it is to be trivialized, even though Bluespunk did not trivialize it.

& I can also tell you I've seen stuff like this on the news in Auss & very hard to throw them out immediately 

I have personally known people who lived like that, back in the mid 70s I went to stay with an army mate of mine at his parents home in Wolverhampton UK, the place was a complete <deleted> hole, there was a pigeon loft attached to the bedroom, it stank and the noise those things made you couldn't sleep, the washing up in the kitchen sink was disgusting, and in the one tiny living room, well it was unreal, they had no carpet, the local council came around twice a year and re tarmac'd it.

 

I didn't stay long. 

When I was a young lad I had news paper route. When i went to do the weekly colection from my customers. There was this one guy and his floor was completely  covered with old newspaper. You literally could not see the floor. 

That has stuck in my mind and I can still see it all these years.

 

 

Pigs live in cleaner pens than that..

Very simple.

Either you control your space, or, it controls you.

So, the others like drug addiction and depression are negative state of mind. Why would anyone want to choose getting into a negative state of mind, instead of a positive state of mind? Choice is the keyword.

It is is a psychological illness.

I've seen a lot worse. When I started working in lending department of large US bank, my manager had me work in the foreclosure department. Thought if I saw end result of bad loans it would make an impression.when approving loans.

The worst was a Jr 1 bed condo, maybe 40 sq meters. The owner had worked for an airline and got severely injured in motorcycle accident. I was to meet him to try to do a loan re-finance/work around to avoid having to foreclose.

He said he would leave door open for me. I opened the door and wall of trash falls out into hallway. Cat jumped out and scratched my arm lengthwise. I went to hospital to get tetanus shot and brought 2 co-workers back with me. Actually thought there might have been a dead body in there. There was half the bed clear surrounded by trash so someone had been living.in this. Guess he would just throw the trash in main living area room. What I found in refrigerator - decaying meat with lots of vermin- will never forget the smell.

Trash was almost head high in living area- just like a landfill. It was the worst my commercial cleaning crew had ever seen. They had to use hazmat suits to clean

I responded to another poster who said drug addiction and laziness were not psychological conditions. 

 

I have pointed out they are both symptoms of depression, a pyschological condition. 

 

And after looking back on our exchanges I notice it was you who mentioned drugs and alcohol first in them...

Happened to lots of people taking those sub-prime loans, getting into debts over their heads. Choice of logic and greed. Greed won.
