I have a Retirement Visa and a Multi-Entry Visa. Yesterday I was told, over a few beers, as you are, that when you return to Thailand, even if you've only been out for a week, with a Multi-Entry Visa you have to report to Immigration to, presumably, let them know you are back - safe and sound. Is that correct?

If so, does the same apply to someone with a Work Visa and a Multi-Entry?

Reports on here are contradictory. I suggest asking your region's immigration office directly.

I just came in on a non-B, and my living place is at the office I work at. According to Samui immigration the housemaster (my boss in this case) is required to report a tm30 every time I move back into the house (whether I was abroad or somewhere else within Thailand). Samui immigration claims there are no exceptions, even when on an extension of stay. This contradicts the video from Jontien immigration I just watched and was shared in another thread about reporting.

Not sure what you actually have. Do you have a multiple entry non-o or non-oa visa issued at an embassy or consulate based upon retirement. Or do you have a one year extension of stay based upon retirement and a multiple re-entry permit issued by immigration.

Whether a report of your presence at your residence by way of a TM30 form is needed or not depends upon the office you go to.

Lets put it this way

Its been stated that every time you leave & re enter the country you must do a TM 30 (at Immigration ) Irrelevant of the Visa Ect you have

Now I know I'm going to get shot down as most people are saying it is up to your local Immigration office ( mine wants it every time I re enter the country on my Non "O" Multi marriage Visa (from outside country ) every time I leave ( 5 mths or less if I go abroad to work ) & that's living at the same address

So as mentioned it is best to check with your local Immigration Office or seek experience from people that deal with the same one

I thought the TM30 was for landlords and property owners to report foreigners staying in their property.

I don't own any property in Thailand, so it isn't my problem.

I fill in a TM6 entry/departure card every time I enter the country for up to 90 days with my proposed Thai address, so I've dome my bit.

He is not asking about 90 day reports.

If you never need anything from your local immigration-office, then there is currently no enforcement which would affect you.  IOs at entry/exit points are not currently enforcing TM-30 (or 90-day) reporting.

If you ever want a service from immigration, you could be forced to pay a fine for failure to have TM-30 reports filed, in order to obtain that service.
