Herbert La Fon, 63 of the United States, is led from an interrogation session on Sept. 30 in Bangkok.

BANGKOK — Police said Monday they still don’t have all the pieces to the puzzle to explain why an American calendar publisher wound up in a shophouse ice box after their lead suspect was sentenced to over four decades in prison.

The Phra Khanong District Court on Friday sentenced Herbert La Fon to 43 years in prison and a 300,000 baht fine over a year after a forgery ring raid led to the surprise discovery in of the frozen body parts.

So he'll be 106 years young when he can go back to the USA, collect social security (which will be renamed Chelseabucks) and he can enjoy living under the Baron Trump administration ... :stoner:

no I personally don't think 43 years is enough, but yes to the fine to cover the court costs why not if the perp has the money why should the tax payer cover the costs

Do you know anything about the judicial system the loser pays the costs so no burden on the taxpayer the fine is on top of the 43 years,. Another new TV know it all

What if he doesn't pay the fine? Does he get a few more years in prison?

You don't think 43 years is enough? LOL > he's 64 now and he will die in prison. What did you have in mind that you consider is an appropriate punishment? It's already worse than a death penalty.

All I can say is that he is going to have a massive dose of "Groundhog Day syndrome". Murder someone and stuff him in a freezer then you deserve an appropriately long sentence and at his age 43 years to mull it over will be well and truly long enough for him to have a good think about his actions.

Let the punishment fit the crime. I think they call that a "stiff" sentence.

I had been looking for a good quality “used” freezer for sale.  Now,  I think I’ll opt for the new one.

It is a page from the American criminal justice system. Take all the money so a prisoner cannot start a criminal enterprise while incarcerated. There are some men and women in prison in the US and other countries that run pretty sophisticated enterprises, including drug trafficking, prostitution, extortion and fraud from inside their tiny little cell.

Where to begin here...read the article? Though as usual in Thailand, the headline portrays the wrong info. It's a confusing article also.

33 of the 43 years is for shooting & wounding a Thai policeman.

"Of the 43-year sentence handed down by the court, 33 years were for the attempted murder of a tourist police sergeant La Fon shot when the authorities raided his residence on a tip that there was a foreign forgery ring operating there."

It's not uncommon In the US to see 3, 4, 5, or more, consecutive life sentences handed down.  I don't see the logic, but It happens.  Perhaps It's just to record the severity of the crime?

Read the article guys. He got 33 years for shooting a Thai cop & 10 years for some other stuff.

Not great deal of money though for someone involved in fraud and been on the run for so long. I suppose the prison guards didn't want any competition in the drug dealing market

Yes those working for the prosecution  would be salaried they get paid whether they try a  case or not, I doubt very much the fine money filters back into the justice department or taxpayer, more likely a carve up for the boys

I read the article.   My post referred to the logic of handing down a sentence that the convicted person will never serve,  i.e., a term that will take him way beyond his natural life.   I merely used the US system as a comparison

I don't understand the hostility of some who post here.   It's not about points scoring, but sharing opinions, exchanging ideas, a little enjoyment, but there are those who do little more than attack, or perhaps it's just that they lack communication skills?   More likely perhaps.

One less cold-case for the books.

Nothing hostile about pointing out that the reason for a 43 year sentence had nothing to do with any body being in a freezer. Sheesh. Touchy touchy. Take a chill pill.
