Boris Johnson to Russia - Stop destabilising Europe or else

The Russians have just been doing what the Russians do. The KGB first started running a disinformation unit in 1923.

The biggest problem for the west are those western politicians and individuals who have been willing to collaborate with and take support from the Russians in pursuit of their own aims. There is quite a network of potential traitors out there on both sides of the Atlantic. And of course blaming the Russians conveniently shifts the focus away from those who should be under the spotlight.

Then you also have the bots and troll factories of the Internet Research Agency which the Facebook and Twitter systems have facilitated. But again, while the Russians may be using social media very effectively, the biggest impact comes from the US and UK bots and trolls with their astroturfing and echo chambers, while Facebook and Twitter seem to be in denial or unable to implement measures that can deal with this.

The Russians are miles ahead at this game but western countries need to look at what's going on within to facilitate this rather than deflecting the blame solely onto the Russians.

"The Russians have just been doing what the Russians do. The KGB first started running a disinformation unit in 1923."

Do you seriously think that other powerful nations aren't doing the same??

Boris is an embarrassment and only a few would be credulous enough to believe that 'the Russians' were able to influence referendums/elections.  We can rely on the wealthy, elite to do this  .

I think it was more of an reminder how lost the western countries are, when it comes to manipulation of others. "It could never happen to us, we are the good people and we live in the free society".

Well, it did happen and now both Britain and USA are paying the price of not being smart enough.

It's good that the problem is acknowledged. Perhaps there will be a cure in the future.

So you believe Russia affected US and UK votes??

Sadly, there are are always a few gullible enough to believe this propaganda - and they also believe the biased opinions in their favourite newspapers....

Of course  all governments try to follow but the Russians are way ahead. There's a reason the word 'disinformation' didn't enter English dictionaries until the 1980s and was a direct translation of the word in the title of the KGB's department.

What you are seeing now is elements within the western elites not only using the Russian tactics but forming contacts with the Russians when they see it advantageous for their own ends. It's not the Russians spending big to influence elections - but they'll gladly give assistance anyone who is spending and prepared to take their assistance. As you say, follow the money of the wealthy elites - US money illegally funding campaigns in the UK for example. And why is the Mueller investigation in the US now looking at Cambridge Analytica?

It's well established by now that they did, and sadly there were not a few but tons of people who were gullible enough to believe the Russian propaganda.

Does everyone think that Russia taking over Crimea is okay?

Really!

Geezer

Yes.  Some years we had a war with Ruassia, along with our trusted allies - the French. It was called the Crimean War 'cos that area was part of Russia.

Well established? Well, amongst the conspiracy theorists I suppose it is. And the globalists would dearly love the masses to believe that it's well established, because that would be a great excuse for them to help overturn democratic votes which don't go their way.

Actually, Babbage designed the first computer in 1812 or thereabouts.

The real tragedy of Britain is that a country that led the world in inventions and started the industrial revolution has become a country that makes not much at all. Britain doesn't even make it's own cars or warplanes anymore. The geniuses that designed the Spitfire, Vulcan, Blue Streak, TSR 2 etc etc are apparently no more.

I grew up in a world where Britain was a leader, a force for stability, with amazing authors and film/ tv makers, comedians, soldiers, explorers, pioneers and statesmen. Where are they now? All gone and replaced by?????????????

No wonder the British media are going mad about Harry's girlfriend- they've got nothing else to talk about.

BTW

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/apr/27/uk-car-industry-has-its-best-month-in-17-years

British car manufacturing enjoyed its best month in 17 years in March fuelled by demand for vehicles from abroad.

The number of cars to roll off UK production lines rose by 7.3% last month compared with a year earlier, to 170,691 - the highest number since March 2000.

First he calls me a "conspiracy theorist" before proceeding to lay out his own conspiracy theory!

Some people's lack of self-awareness is just touching:biggrin:

Except that there is no evidence that 'the Russian threat' has swung any elections. But there's plenty of evidence that groupings which support globalisation are using 'the Russian threat' to discredit democratic decisions; here in Europe, they've blamed the brexit and Catalan independence votes on it.

I'd agree that it's impossible to say exactly how much, if any, influence the Russian bots had on any elections. And it's dangerous to play up the Russian influence as it takes the spotlight away from where it really should be focused.

So, it's encouraging to see that the Mueller investigation seems to be looking at Cambridge Analytica and other organizations and individuals who've potentially acted illegally.
