Question for the snowbirds. What do you do with your stuff?

For the people that just stay for a few months at a time, what do you do with the stuff you end up buying for your house/condo/apartment?  Kitchen supplies (pots, pans, utensils, cooking appliances), bedroom supplies (towels, sheets, pillows, rugs), knick-knacks, etc.  Do you just leave them when you leave and buy new ones when you come back next year?  Do you store them in a paid storage business?  Do you have a friend store them for you?  Do you just not buy the stuff in the first place?

 

It seems a bit wasteful to leave it behind every year, but I guess it's not that much wasted money overall.

I used a storage company. It was 250 baht/month per cubic meter and a 1,000 baht fee that included the pickup and delivery.

 

I had 2 m³ stored for an average of 6 months so 4,000 baht for not having to rebuy stuff each time. Stuff in storage included a good office chair, 27" monitor, some kitchen stuff, clothes, etc. Initially I also had my mountain bike stored with them, but the second place I rented had plenty of free space in their parking garage.

 

Eventually I bought my own place where I now store my stuff :)

You didn't mention GHs so I guess that what I say will not be of much use.  I have a fair amount of stuff, but nothing like ikn talks about and my GH keeps it for me year after year, as they do for all the other Monthlies.  A friend of mine lives in a nearby condo and he leaves his stuff with a friend.

What are you taking about. YOU HOUSE/APARTMENT. DO YOU LEAVE IT FOR ANY ONE TO COME IN  AND TAKE IT.  DO YOU NOT LOCK IT UP.

I buy lots of personal supplies, including stocking up on cold meds etc. Leave spices, knicknacks, cleaning supplies in place. Pack rest in big suitcase along with DVDs, beachwear, a few towels, t-shirts you would never wear at home. Leave it in closet with owner's permission, rent same place every year. Nobody bothers it. Nobody wants it.

I lock my apartment with 2 door locks, and an external door handle lock, plus my floor has security cameras 20 feet from my Condo front door, my windows and sliding glass door has a bar locks I install when I leave  -  if anyone can can circumvent all that - they can have it all.

So do they have lockers that are 1 cubic meter, 2 cubic meters, etc?  Or they just measure your stuff and just charge by volume and put into a shared storage room?

When I first came here, a couple of months at the time, I didn't have any cooking pots as I went eating out every day.

 

Now that I live here for more than 20 years, and have my own house, i still don't have cooking pots however i have 2 fully installed kitchens

I assume this topic is about what you do with your stuff when you rent somewhere to stay. If you have your own house/ Condo, why on earth would you put your stuff into storage. Any decent place would have good security and your stuff will be there when you get back. Now if you live in a bad area then forget it.

I am in Thailand with the wife average 6 monts a year.

We own a condo (125 sqm) with 2 bedrooms, study and 2 bathrooms) and we share a house with her mother in the province. The cmplex is under 24 hour guard as well at the main entrance (2 persons) as well at the main gate (2 persons).

On the office of the complex we store spare keys.

 

I have a house and an appartment in Europe.

All and everything complete furnished.

Clothes in all 4 places.

 

When we move from one place to another our procedure is:

(Eh mostly we do not even unpack all things but just to explain). We live out from cabine case and backpack

 

Per house:

We store the clothes, towels etc. in vacuum sealed plastic bags and add motballs and  bags with lavendel.

We never leave open food in the house. I am in for canned and bottles food and drinks.

 

Before we go (depending the time = mostly longer than 2 weeks) we clean the refrigerators and freezers but leave the doors open and unplugg them.

We drain the washing machines and add at about 200 cc glorix in the system. Same with the dryers and the dishwashers.

Also we add glorix in all toilets and all washing bowls.

The open drains are always afterwards plugged off to avoid smell from the drainage system.

 

The sofa's, chairs and bed are covered under plastic sheets.

Unplug all electric appliances but before we  leave place a airwick unit in every room.

Close the main water tap and lock the door.

Pots and pans, glasses and other kitchen ware stay in the cabinets. We wash before use. Eh and also after.

 

My wife and me follow a grown in procedure and when we are finsihed we check each others room.

 

We make pictures from every room at the time we leave. All cabinets we leave open doors.

 

Oh we use in Thailand European locks with 4 pins and next we  cap the door knob of with a cap and lock.

 

 

Then mostly we go to the car key in and leave till next time.

2 years ago I'd use my golf bag locker to store my stuff, last year a friend looked after a suitcase in his condo, this year as I've found a relatively cheap guesthouse i may just keep the room when i leave

Topic is for snowbirds, meaning people that come to stay for when it is winter at home, that rent a place to stay for a few months each year.

We live here so storage for us is not a problem.

 

However, we have friends who come here each year and have stuff they would not use in their own country so we keep it for them.  The amount of other peoples gear we have varies, from a small rucksack to a couple of large suitcases.

 

What we tend to have though is motorbikes - quite a few.  They are moved each week and and serviced the week before people want them.

They put my stuff on a pallet, wrap it in plastic, and put it into their shared storage room.

 

I haven’t seen this, as they pickup and deliver my stuff. Presumably they have 1×1 and 2×1 pallets, and if it fits the latter, I’ll be charged for 2 m³.

There used to be an Israeli guest house in Kohsarn road area. Across the street from da po-lice station up from wat Channasongkram. I recall a Sawasdee GH/hotel sort of being across from it. They'd store large bags for B5 a day in a large fenced lockup.
