Violent crime rises in Germany and is attributed to refugees

BERLIN (Reuters) - Young male refugees in Germany got the blame on Wednesday for most of a two-year increase in violent crime, adding fuel to the country's political debate over migrants.

Violent crime rose by about 10 percent in 2015 and 2016, a study showed. It attributed more than 90 percent of that to young male refugees.

It noted, however, that migrants settling from war-torn countries such as Syria were much less likely to commit violent crimes that those from other places who were unlikely to be given asylum.

Migration will be a key issue in forthcoming coalition talks between Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives and the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD). The arrival of more than a million migrants since mid-2015 hurt both parties in last September's election.

The government-sponsored study showed a jump in violent crime committed by male migrants aged 14 to 30.

Christian Pfeiffer, a criminology expert and one of the study researchers, told Deutschlandfunk radio there were huge differences between various refugee groups depending on where they came from and how high their chances were of staying and gaining legal status in Germany.

Asylum seekers who are regarded as war refugees who have relatively good chances of staying in Germany tend to avoid trouble more, the study found.

Around 17 percent of violent crimes in Lower Saxony that were attributed to refugees, for example, were suspected of being committed by North African asylum seekers who made up less than 1 percent of the state's registered refugee population. North African asylum seekers have relatively slim chances of obtaining legal status in Germany.

"The situation is completely different for those who find out as soon as they arrive that they are totally undesirable here. No chance of working, of staying here," Pfeiffer said.

The study said reuniting refugees with their families by allowing them to come to Germany too could help to reduce violence. Such reunions look set to be a particularly contentious issue in talks about a new coalition government.

The predominantly young male majority of refugees live in Germany without partners, mothers, sisters or other females whom the study sees as a "violence-preventing, civilising force."

... was visiting through Hamburg back in 2015, and didn't see any refugees... only these only able bodied trouble makers

Angela Merkel’s open door policy is working well, then.

They needed a govt study to work this out , you couldnt make it up .

Aaaaaahhh...more fuel for right and their hateful politics!

Read the whole article:

- no mentioning of who these crimes are committed to and under what circumstances

- refugees from war- countries commit far less crimes

- bringing together families might very well bring crime - rates down

But, please... by all means...keep banging the war drum!

Being against violent crime, rapes and terrorism is 'hateful' ? Of course they don't mention who the criminals are or where from that would be 'racist'. We all know what religion most of them will be followers of though- shhh

Actually, I think, it has the opposite effect.

The crimes, some of the bad apples have done, has largely beening unreported. This was the idea of putting all the immigrants in the same basket and thinking that they are all the same. Well, they are not.

When the issue of the criminals is addressed correctly, the rest of the immigrants, who don't do crimes, can finally feel separated from the bad apples.

The general public can also differentiate the good from the bad. Their attitude towards immigrants and refugees will improve once the criminals have been shown the door out of the country.

Yes the liberal lefty snowflakes don't like the truth.

It has been happening in the UK for a few years. France the same.

But lets put our heads in the sand and hold hands singing we can all live together nicely. The EU plan is working well.

Actually crimes committed by foreigners have twice the likelihood of being reported than those by German nationals. One third of violent crimes committed by asylum seekers are against those in the same situation. As stated above those who have the greatest chance of being vetted as genuine refugees usually do not commit crime. Germany, as is the case with other EU countries, are still in the process of completing relevant government to government negotiations to ease the deportation process of rejected asylum seekers, though some foreign countries have already agree to accepting returnees.

Some more detail in reports below e.g.

an increase of 10.4 percent in reported violent crimes  in 2015 and 2016. More than 90 percent of the increase (not of total violent crimes) was said to be attributable to migrants.

From the article:

"Violent crime rose by about 10 percent in 2015 and 2016, a study showed. It attributed more than 90 percent of that to young male refugees."

"The government-sponsored study showed a jump in violent crime committed by male migrants aged 14 to 30."

Just wonder if countries ever considered just banning this demographic, i.e., young male refugees.  A tad simplistic, but this group seems to cause an awful lot of problems all over the place.

they could have paid me half as much as they paid the people who did the study, .....and I would have come to the same conclusion, ....and sooner.

....and females.  They can certainly work.  As I said, my suggestion was a simplistic notion which addresses the main issue, i.e., the rise in violent crime of which more than 90 percent was attributable to young male refugees.  We're not talking about bringing in able-bodied workers or anything else, just reducing violent crime.

Well  Well   Angela Merkel .......    what did you expect would happen    ....  ????????

If you could read or had any interest in facts: they say it!

But that does not matter, does it?!

let's see how the liberals defend this "unexpected" turn of events.

only punishment for those criminals is repatriation. no reason for taxpayers to shoulder the costs of their incarceration in germany

This comes as no suprise to anyone.

I'm more suprised that the establishment didn't realise that the population had 'cottoned on' to the way the definition of 'refugees' had become ridiculous a long time ago.

Now that they have finally realised 'it's a problem' - we have to deal with finding a way to send a large percentage back home....

Nonsense - anyone found guilty and jailed should serve the sentence and then be deported. To exempt foreign criminals from the criminal justice system and just deport them, if a government to government agreement is in place to do so, would be stupid, both politically and for the victims.

It's nothing to do with the politics of left or right, but with facts. This is a government study and the main fact which needs to be faced, without the attempt you are making to explain it away, is:

Violent crime rose by about 10 percent in 2015 and 2016, a study showed. It attributed more than 90 percent of that to young male refugees.

Presumably, you can read and understand this. Now accept it as a reality and stop making excuses for the inexcusable.

The same in Sweden. Now Sweden has the highest rape rates in Europe.

Mostly (95.6%) committed of migrants from Afghanistan and Somalia.

The opticians keep telling "not because of migration", despite everyone knows.

It's neutral government study that links immigration to crime. But we didn't need the study. We knew.

To say nothing of 25 year old child refugees in the UK. Invasion via immigration is a moronic concept.

Waiting for mention of the areas in European cities where authorities dare not enter....

There's something wrong with you lad and your mate DM07.

Let's not deviate from the topic - 'violent crimes have risen, and are attributed to 'refugees'.

This is largely due IMO to the lax definition of 'refugees' .

I for one try to establish facts as demonstrated by the links I provided. You and your clique unequivocally support far right propaganda and often source their terminology. Accordingly IMHO you and your fellow travellers are the ones with 'something wrong', plus act contrary to the advise of our national security agencies.

It is a problem not only for Germany , also other E.C. countries . The raping of young white teenage girls in the midlands and north of the UK by Muslim gangs has been widely reported . The unregulated immigration to create cheaper labour that will enhance the profits of businesses with complete disregard for the countries nationals welfare is to me bordering on treason . There are many no go areas in the UK and I would suspect within Europe as well . The UK reporting of crimes has been changed with the more trivial crimes omitted to give the appearance that all is under control but that is clearly not the case . There are now small pockets of home bred vigilantes springing up and I can see the day when the worm will turn . Would not have put up with it in Alf Garnetts day

Do these figures pertain to terrorism charges as well? Is there a clear distinction? And if so - does the analysis regarding the differentiation between countries of origin holds?
