Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has shunned the opportunity for Michelin Star food to be served for him and his Cabinet members.

Government Spokesman Lt-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said yesterday that the PM just felt he should be “sufficient” and not create any problems, as the Michelin Guide team is promoting Thai food to attract more foreign tourists to visit the Kingdom.

“In my opinion, I think he [Prayut] may not want the public to feel he is an example of a leader who eats expensive food,” Sansern said.

Famous street-food eatery Jay Fai, which is known for its Thai-style crabmeat omelette – priced from Bt800 to Bt2,000 – is one of 14 Bangkok restaurants that earned one star in the debut edition of the “Michelin Guide Bangkok”, which was launched last month.

One day after she picked up the Michelin-star certification, Jay Fai owner and chef Supinya Junsuta said the Michelin Guide team would arrange for her to cook up some dishes for the prime minister.

A great achievement for Jay Fai. Love the goggles.

He still going to have a Michelin star chef cook for him? So he is going to have the 800 baht omelette? So what do the poor people get to travel on the buses from the Government? The General will eat that in one course of food.

Call me ignorant but i always thought that Michelin stars also had to do with kitchenhygiene? That wooden counter looks pretty weared and full of bacterials to me.

In Europe restaurants are not allowed to use wooden counters for that reason.

And the rest of his equipment should be stainless steel me thinks plus he needs a new clean cloth.

The food can still be great of course but it all looks amateuristic to me.

"Waiter, this pasta tastes like rubber!"

"Well sir, it is Michelin. You said you wanted Michelin pasta...."

That's the chance you've been waiting for so looooong Steven. Clean up your pots and pans and write an invitation.

He won't eat Michelin star food? Is there anything this man won't do for his country?

Could be wrong, but if I remember correctly, the owner's sentiment about the whole Michelin thing was that it's all very nice, but the disruption of the place's daily routine wasn't as welcome.

He is worth B600,000,000.  If he paid for it himself, what would be the problem ?  Unless he is like all the other Hi-So's and won't part with him money.

And every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, our dear leader eats simple meals like an ordinary worker on the streets. Long live our dearest leader!
