"Most hated German in Thailand" feathers his love nest in the Gambia

The man given the moniker of "The Most Hated German in Thailand" is now moving into a love nest with his new bride in Africa.

And it even appears his wandering days ripping off the world's public might be over and he could be on the verge of settling down.

Benjamin Holst, the man with the giant leg who pulled a variety of stunts that incurred the wrath of Thais, has now found happiness in the Gambia.

His latest news is that he is refurbishing an apartment in the capital of the west African nation, the City of Banjul.

He is even shelling out his own money for the rent though he said it was only 80 Euros.

Herr Holst, 32, married a local woman in December. Though named on several sites as one of the most infamous beggars in the world, comment on his Facebook page is largely positive.

Martin Boles said: "True love - time for babies".

While Dandy Nong said in reference to his latest news: "You gotta love this guy".

Love is not something in abundance for Herr Holst in Thailand. After telling Thais on the streets of Bangkok a variety of sob stories he took their money for an orgy of prostitutes and booze in Pattaya.

The Thais finally pulled the plug on him and had him deported and blacklisted.

Since then he has wandered the world being chucked out of one place or another and even gone home to Flensburg in his native Germany for a while.

He describes himself as self-employed on his Facebook page.

largely positive comments?

easy. If you follow him on facebook you can see that he always quickly deletes any negative post.

It is his facebook site and he can do this.

Why should anyone post an honest (but negative) comment when they know from experience it will be deleted?

So don't conclude people see him mainly positive.

Anyway if he changes and stops scamming I wish him the best of luck.

Begging isn’t ripping people off.

you're right.

But deceiving kind hearted people by pretending to be in an emergency when you are not is not right.

And when they give money  because they want to help,

using it for a luxury life style - this  is ripping off.

And that is the reason why people might not approve of him.

He does not need begging. He is capable to travel the world. He had jobs. He could find work if he wanted. His leg is ugly but does not make him disabled.

If he could not find work in Germany he would be taken care of by the government. Obviously he decided that scamming people is easier.

So we agree: he didn’t rip anyone off.

His love nest looks really cozy.

Wonder how many cheap charlies reading this article thought, "Hmmm.  Hadn't thought of Gambia.  Sounds cheap, chicks look scrummy too!  Maybe I'll go there and check it out!"

went in 93 and Trump would be right about the Gambia, it has nothing to recommend it at all apart from the beaches and the Guinness factory

No.

Its not.

It’s not right, it’s not particularly nice, however it’s ripping no one off.

People give because they want to help. What the beggar does with the money, freely given is up to them.

they give because they want to help somebody in need.

They don't give to provide partying, alcohol, hookers, air travel and drugs

If you give, you give.

After that, your involvement is over.

How many people donate good money to questionable institutions helping poor children, etc...and finally finance new cars, houses and other stuff for people who already have a lot?

You don't want to get it.

When you give you give with a purpose.

Otherwise you can throw the money out of the window.

When you give to a beggar you give because your heart has been touched.

If you  your gift is abused you are betrayed.

That happens, but this guy was begging.

For himself.

He spent the money on himself.

He may not be a nice person, we may not approve of how he spends the money, but there is no rip off.

Yes, but it’s not a rip off.

You give to a begger, because you want to.

How they spend it is their choice.
