Loei’s Phu Rua sees 1C for second day

By The Nation

Some 1,000 tourists visited the popular mountaintop of Phu Rua in Loei on Saturday morning to wait for the sunrise as temperatures remained at 1 degree Celsius, while meteorologists are predicting even colder temperatures for the Northeast.

It was the second early morning in a row experiencing at that temperature.

Tourists started arriving for the sunrise starting at 1am at the mountaintop. Many took selfie shots with the sign displaying the temperature at a degree above zero.

The Loei weather office reported that lowlands in the districts of Phu Rua, Dan Sai, Na Haew and Phu Luang had chilly weather with the temperature of 10 to 14 degrees Celsius. Many local people said they had to get up around 4am to light up fires to keep themselves warm.

The temperature at Phu Kradueng National Park in Phu Rua was measured at 6.5C, the Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary in Phu Rua at 7C and Phu Suan Sai National Park in Na Haew at 10.5C.

Chalalai Chaemphol, director of the regional Meteorological Office for the upper Northeast said the region’s temperature would further drop by one to three degrees from Saturday to Monday.

This sounds more like my Canadian temperature, although we have had some - 10, 20 and 30 recently (note, I said "-"). Nice to hear that that many people bared the cold to see the sun rise.

Yup go to a tropical country then head to  a mountain top to shiver in Plus 1 temps.

Went once with my Thai family, never again. My idea of a Tropical holiday is one where

I suffer in the heat, then enjoy some ocean breezes and scenery.

Geezer
