Political/economic smarts ???  :cheesy:

Macron is just on his trip to "Make France great again". His "program" is to fill up the coffers of his de-industrialized country via the EU from the Northern Europeans. With Brexit, the blocking minority of the Northern EU members is gone and he can form his Mediterranean alliance with the lazy/corrupt southern no-haves to redistribute the wealth of the North.

Merkel, the former communist FDJ secretary and former "Reisekader", has never had another vision than staying in power and sitting problems out.

Britain crashes out of world's top 5 economies

Treasury chief Philip Hammond acknowledged the slide on Wednesday, noting the new ranking in a series of statements meant to highlight the economy's strength...

The numbers show that France will narrowly squeak ahead of Britain in the group's 2017 ranking of global economies, with its advantage predicted to widen considerably in 2018...

The slide reflects a sharp deceleration in Britain's economic growth since it voted to leave the European Union in June 2016.

Compared to Merkel and Macron, Trump is a real Thicko, can't string two coherent words together. Personally they should ban him from coming to Europe, until they get somebody with some brains.

I thought George W Bush was inept, until this moron came and stole the idiocy show !

Whether he's banned from civilized countries or not the potus not with the mostest but the leastest (sic) has voluntarily withdrawn the USA from global leadership. In trump speak America First besides being a white resentment dog whistle also means America Alone. Decent Americans are understandably horrified by this self destructive turn of events but we're stuck with him for who knows how long.

Of course there are other nations willing to seize this opportunity of a power vacuum. Particularly China.

Well, of course the liberal New World Order lot hate him. But, quite frankly, how has it got to the point where someone like him (Trump) can even be fairly and squarely elected through the electoral college system? That's the really question. People can huff and puff about him all day long but he won it....somehow (even he was astonished too, I believe). Are the detractors saying that the US electorate were so disillusioned with what came before that they were willing to roll-the-dice on this guy...pretty damning judgment on what came before and it's effect on the population if that's the case, must have been some real disillusionment that the Dems need to diagnose and try to appeal to a wider section of the electorate other than the likes of carefree California and other coastal places.

OK, Trump may well be a one term president, but the fact that he won it fair and square is just nuts. Get ready for president Oprah next, which will be another disaster too....blimey. I think many on both sides of the political divide in the US need to seriously look in the mirror and be more forthright about much.

Trump will do the conference on-the-fly probably and make some balls-up but won't compromise his 'America First' ideas and has little to fear from these two.

Trump can only make mistakes.  That's all he's good at.  Macron is rightfully being seen by int'l leaders as the spokesperson man of western powers.  Macron may not be ideal, but it's certain Trump has soiled himself beyond repair.

from the OP:  Trump has pulled the United States out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a free trade deal with Asian countries, announced a withdrawal from the Paris climate accord and threatened to torpedo an agreement between Western powers and Iran aimed at curbing its nuclear program.

The above quote is only a small portion of the damaging policies of the dangerous dufus.  I could list others, but I don't want to get carpal tunnel, or hog too much posting space.  Anyone paying attention to US politics in the past 20 months knows Trump is idiotic and rude at his best, and dangerous and job-killing at his worst.

Sir Dude opines: "OK, Trump may well be a one term president, but the fact that he won it fair and square is just nuts."

Boomer responds: Are you joking?!  "....won it fair and square" ?!  Sorry, not funny or witty.

Sir Dude: "Are the detractors saying that the US electorate were so disillusioned with what came before that they were willing to roll-the-dice on this guy..(?)"

Boomers:  Not quite.   The less-than-half of US voters who voted for Trump were not disillusioned.   To call them 'disillusioned' is like calling the 9-11 bombers 'disruptive.'  No, the folks who voted for Trump were easily duped by a professional shyster, and too stupid to see the danger he personifies.

Either that, or Trump voters simply want to assist in the denigration of the USA.

The US electoral college is a strange beast, but is like that so politicians have to engage everyone and all politicians know this before anything starts. The Dems blew it thinking it was proportional representation...better luck next time. If people don't like it, vote him out next time.

Being objective and neutrally assessing often has its problems and leaves you open to ridicule from those from a less than neutral stance.

Claiming you're "objective and neutrally assessing" can leave you open to ridicule. Especially when your earlier post includes stuff  like "Well, of course the liberal New World Order lot hate him"  and " Macron is a pretty boy with a M!LF complex." The only person you're fooling here is yourself.
