I am interested in getting a couple of Miniture Personal Computers [ MIni PCs ]  [ e.g. Intel PC Stick ].

The main reason is that I think it wise to have certain computers dedicated to certain activity AND no other type of activity permitted on each ;

And, this policy motivated by security concerns

Ransom-Ware & Keylogger-Software

So, certain Mini PC for online banking.

Another for Amazon.com orders.

Another for surfing the Internet.

Another for Email.

Another for composing documents.

etc

p.s.

I am somewhat apprehensive about the challenge of putting on Linux OS on my own on these devices.

I am still reading the Debian "Linux" Manual

But, I will put it on if advised.

In searching www.lazada.co.th, I note products which are :

not advertised as being Mini PC

actually advertised as being Smart TV Box

e.g.s

Questions :

Q_1

Is it smart to have Linux as the only Operating System rather than having both Windows OS + Linux OS  ?

Q_2

Should I avoid any product that is loaded with Apps ? ;

Because of Hazard of these containing malware [ especially Ransom-Ware & Keyloggers ]

Q_3

What do yee recommend from all Mini PCs & Smart TV Boxes ?

Much thanks in advance for all ur helpful replies,

Four boxes would mean four antivirus programs, each operating system would need a separate antivirus for each. Not to mention the absolute nightmare of plugging 4 boxes into your TV (4 HDMI ports), switching between them etc. Its not reducing your chance of a virus etc, its increasing the chances. Or at least increasing the time and trouble to keep them all secure and up to date.

Get one box, one operating system, set up a good anti virus, keep it up to date, dont over-ride it. You will have all the security in the world. Read up on some basic internet security practices, email attachments, dont click here for free etc.

Have 2-3 email accounts, one for banking etc, and others for sign ups etc.

You can get TV box etc that run win 10.

All constructive feedback being banked even if I eventually select that which differs from other good feedback.

So, thanks again thus far.

Yes, it may well be the case that the hardware of Intel PC Stick is more reliable, & that also it really requires using MS Windows Operating System rather than Linux too.

But, I still see the over-riding merit in having separate hardware devices.

I have been keylogged ;

And, it can happen even more easily than avoiding what is standardly advised to so avoid.

And, one may never know that one is keylogged.

Meanwhile,  awaiting more responses, were I to proceed with Linux, what are my options for Anti-Malware* ?

*

In passing,- surely, I ask rhetorically, this term is more encompassing of what a good security software for Computer & Internet a/c's is rather than it merely Anti-Virus ?

There are a ton of these Mini PC's these days.

Hi Mtls 2500,

Much thanks for that reply.

Both those links u give are very interesting  :

1_

online shop "gearbest.com" page 1 for Mini PC

2_

the Mini PC -- Beelink S1_4K

.............................

However ;

1_1

Gearbest.com I think does not operate "pay on delivery" option

I very reluctant to pay in advance for the item to be sent through Courier & Thai Customs because I fear the worst Re; extra costs

2_1

This Mini-PC is outside of my budget.

.........................................................................................

From www.lazada.com, or any nationwide or Bangkok retailer, which Mini PC fine for "word processing", & "email", & "surfing the internet", & "playing youtube videos," AND that sells for circa THB1,000 would u recommend ?

This question does not mean that I will not acquire Intel PC Stick with Windows 10 as just 1 or 2 Mini PCs in my family of Mini PCs.

I like Intel NUC.

Apart from that I suggest you use one PC with a CD/DVD drive and Portable Windows installed on a CD (read only, not the Windows installation DVD). The computer does not need a hard disk.

Then you can always start Windows from the "fresh" CD which can't have any viruses or malware because it is read only. The moment you shut down the computer everything you did in that session will be saved nowhere. And next time you start again like with a brand new PC.

If you go for Linux you don't need antimalware software, antivirus software or a firewall.  Linux is inherently secure by design.  Software can only be installed if you agree to it at the point of installation.

(It's possible for you to receive malware-containing emails and then forward them to someone else who uses Windows and so gets infected.  Some people think this is a good reason to install antimalware software on Linux.)

1_1 Correct. Many of us have successfully ordered from GearBest, without undue extra costs. COD will probably limit your options?

2_1 Correct. Submitted for others who may be interested in a more full-featured mini-PC.
