Hi there,

My foreign husband and I, also a foreigner, are planning to enroll our child in a kindergarten and are investigating what our options are to legalize our stay in Thailand.

We ruled out the Non-O "Guardian" visa (based on the child's ED visa) for either of us because of the 500k Bt in the bank requirement. We would be most interested in a 1-year multiple-entry non-O (dependent visa based on employment) or a 1-year multiple-entry non-immigrant B for doing business. Do you know what the financial requirements for these are ? We have regular income that we can show in our foreign bank account but have no savings at a Thai bank.

Also, which embassies in the region would be willing to issue these visas the easiest?

I appreciate your help.

A non-o visa is not issued for employment. A non-b visa is issued for working or business.

You have to be working for a company and have a work permit to get a non-b visa on that basis. For business purposes you would have to be working for a company outside of Thailand and show contacts with Thai companies you would be doing business with.

There are no locations within the region that would issue a non-b visa for business purposes unless you were working for a company where they are located. For work it is possible to get one if you have a work permit valid for at least 8 months.

Penang is the only place in the region that issues multiple non-B.

You need at least 8 months on your work permit and must be owner/director of the company.

Thanks for the replies.

I am going to be employed at some point, I believe. I've hold a Thai work permit before so I'm familiar with that route, but back then I was single and I didn't have to do visa arrangements for my family. I'm aware I could apply for a single entry Non-O dependent visa for my husband based on my employment. Is there any financial requirements for the initial 90 entry to be extended to a year?

As for the 1-year multiple entry non-B for doing business- I've hold that visa once too (10 years ago). Then it was sufficient to present an invitation letter from a Thai company. No income proof or company papers were required. Has this changed?

There are no financial requirements to get the non-o visa or the extension for your husband. Your child can also get one.

I don't understand 'no financial requirement".

Just recently I had to show proof of 5000 € held in my current account for 3 mts. incl. handing over of bank statements for the 3 mts. to obtain a non-O multiple entry. Approval had to be given by Thai Embassy, consulate could not approve.

Since we are 2 (married), amount to be in the account had to be 10.000€.

Upon what basis? That seems to be for one based upon retirement.

I was writing about a single entry non-o visa being a family member of person working here and and a extension of stay on the same basis.

Do you happen to know if it's actually possible to have my child enrolled in kindergarten on a non-O dependent visa? The school said she needs to get an ED visa but maybe they're just not aware. I tried to call the immigration office but they don't pick up...

There is no visa requirement to attend school. Only a valid permit to stay.

Your child does not need to have a non-ed visa to attend school.
