A skull, leg bones and ribs believed to belong to an aged, amnesiac monk were found on a deserted plot of land in Phit Sanulok’s Muang district on Wednesday morning.

Officer at the Muang Phitsanulok poilice station were alerted of the finding at 8.30am.

A monk’s robe was found near the remains spotted near a public pond in Moo 2 village in Tambon Bueng Phra. Forensic police officers believe the person died about two or three months ago. The remains were sent for a DNA test at the Buddha Shinaraj Hospital.

Narong Duangtha, 48, who found the bones, said he had come to the area to trap wild rodents.

Local resident Wichian Raksakhom, 69, said she used to see a monk, who appeared to be around 70, collecting alms in the village. She said the monk had amnesia and liked to wander around instead of staying at a temple. He had lived at several temples but often came out to stay at bus stops with a roof.

Wichian said she had not seen the monk for about three months.
