Can't you read?

I was not commenting on business set-ups in Thailand, I was commenting on your bullshit generalisation of all foreign-owned businesses in Thailand, not just yours, that, as you point it out, wouldn't have staff problems if you had control of your own business.  Just because you recruited crap staff does not mean that every worker in Thailand is the same.

My comment originally was to KIWIBATCH but you involved yourself by agreeing with him and then adding to his moan so you get tarred with the same brush particularly as you backed up the generalisation with the comments above.

By the way, I'm a farang, I'm 66and have no issues getting around (why did you bring that up) have had more than one Thai wife both of whom have owned businesses.

So you could not cut it with the first Thai wife then, pray tell why not it will help many of us.

Who said I "couldn't cut it" with my first Thai wife, I didn't, and you have no bloody idea what happened to her, have you?  Give me one reason why I should discuss that with you.

Guys guys This is not a personal forum. It is a forum where you express your ideas on matters regarding what is happening in Thailand. Please do not take it to personal levels We all have our own ideas and its a free world.

Nonsense. This is a public forum where opinions and comments on other's posts are intended to be commented on without you imposing your unwanted interpretation of what should be said, as long as those comments are not in contravention of the forum rules.

Mind you own business until you're a mod, Happyman58, and do not include me in your "personal level" assessment; that should be addressed to wakeupplease.

Very much like a Vegas casino:  Easy to enter, difficult to find the exit (unless you are thrown out), and smart people don't bring in more than they can afford to lose.

Can you elaborate?

Sure, I owned a small Mechanical contracting company in America. And was always playing with passive solar systems.

Purely by accident really, I moved over here for a few months when I was 55.  The house I was living in didn't have hot water at the time and I didn't want to hang a unit on the wall so I decided to build a passive system for the house.

After about 3 months of design work and having the local machine shop build the tools I needed for the collector I wanted to use. I had a few Thai guys build the collector for me to my design. Worked like a charm, really too good. All the parts were off the shelf and extremely easy to get, and easy to repair the system if needed.

I had it installed in the house and made a few design changes but not much, worked great. Some Thai guy building a guest house got wind of it and came by.  He wanted me to design one for his guest house.

So I went and checked out what it would take to open a small business here. For me it was totally unacceptable. IMO you would have a better chance of marrying a bar girl then opening a small business here in Thailand...!

The the GF saw what was going on she told the relatives.

Long story short I gave the system away for free to the GF and relatives and moved on. It died a quiet death...!  I did not loose anything really. Extremely cheap to build, and I absolutely enjoyed designing it. I had been wanting to do it for years.

Not bitter what so ever, and I wished them the best of luck when I left.

A quick note: That was over 10 years ago. I went back last year and asked the home owner if I could inspect the collectors. They were still in very good condition.

thanks for the explanation. I had been in three businesses there and we (expats) got eaten alive by the government in every division

You want to open a profitable business as a foreigner?  Come to Vietnam.

I've been thinking about that.

Can you give me the low down on a PM when you have time please.

I'm sick of the inconsistency here where the officials make things up as they go.
