Military vows to solve Pong lake pollution

PATTAYA:--The army is promising to finally resolve the problem of a polluted lake in Pong that residents say was polluted by a Chinese-owned factory.

 

Soldiers from Military Circle 14 in Chonburi met with management of the Chinese-owned Tao Kae Nia factory Jan. 16 following renewed complaints from nearby residents.

 

Locals say it’s not the first time authorities have met with the factory owner and remain skeptical the new meeting will result in anything. But army officials this time are vowing to fix the problem.

 

Krittaya Dusitkithikul, 39, posted photos to Facebook of contaminated banana trees and other crops that she claims resulted from pollution by the factory next door.

 

She showed the soldiers two plots of land where she farms coconuts and bananas. She also pointed out where the sewage was coming from.

 

Krittaya added that this is not new since her crops have been affected for many years. She spoke to the owner and they said they would do something about it but no action was taken.
